Honest Take Regarding One Of The Most Popular Videogames

My therapist said I needed to make this review to overcome my traumatic experiences this game gave me.

Soundtrack? Not existing, immersive graphics? Not really, over complicated game mechanics? One button presses only.

And then we ask ourselves why is this game so enjoyable even when your losing streak could be a 100 times in a row? Are we all just addicted psychopaths? Or is there more to it. 🤔

From a Grandmaster in competitive, having played with some professional players in skrims, to someone who has over 2000/4000 hours in this game.

(☝️ The above is for those hardcore toxic ow players who only care about ranks or else they don’t care about you, but we will get to that later 🤣)

In short the game objective was simple and fun, the cinematics were beautiful and astonishing to watch. Character wise while they time to time seem lame and generic, they often bring character and personality and surely in its varying gameplay mechanics 🕹️

It is in general just a fun simple game you could play with complete randoms or with friends, simple abilities became something to master like any game and how to use it the most effectively. 🤯

Aside from these good points, the negative comes way harder down.😶‍🌫️

Extremely toxic fan base, massive problem with people leaving the match or willing to throw, characters getting unbalanced nerfs, super massive disappointment in devs not listening and keeping heroes OP for example Ashe a super hard hitting close and from range sniper with extreme busted abilities has never been nerf.😡

While some characters get extremely more attention regarding skins, abilities and more, while the rest don’t get anything.🤢

A massive lack of updates, new heroes, maps, story or anything else this game purely ran only on the enjoyment of the characters and that’s literally about it.💀

There was zero reason to play this game besides that, Competitive play was almost impossible, Even the most known people in this community like the pros and owl players have had massive amounts of issues of trying to climb out of rankings, Most of them duo q or triple q to even get out of the hell hole that never gets fixed even if you are a grandmaster you could drop almost instantly after like 10 loses to master again, it would mean you need to win another 10 matches in a row to be there again.🥸

And we all knew it goes like one win and one lose for the next hours, and you actual never climbed that way.🙂‍↕️

To finish off this review, Overwatch sucked in a good way, it was only good in one thing and it kept making you want to play every darn time because every match was different from the other🥳, anything could happen, and the way you contributed to a fight mattered. Even if it meant a q as dps for 20 minutes and even if it meant losing every match against unfair match making or unbalanced characters.😨

Now in the copy and paste overwatch 2 where they just put a 2 on the name and a massive disastrous launch where people lost there profile stats like me, (I had something like 2000hours at the time or more but my entire profile got ruined to 630hours, and they never fixed it.)

They promised so much like story and never delivered the moment marvel rivals started to take there fanbase like a slurpie 🥤they implanted deadass overwatch custom lobby games with new abilities in those rpg like games the more you kill the more you level up and get new abilities.

Loot boxes got removed and in its place a skin shop I have no idea how they bypassed the Europe law regarding gambling and casino like mechanics in a game that’s also meant for children since the game is so popular among teenagers and adults you would think it’s lawsuit worthy. The game not only declined from being shit already it went to hell and then went beyond hell when they started charging for a weapon animation for €40+ they ORBIT TO THE UNKNOWN MY GOOD FRIENDS 😂 AND STILL MAKE A PROFIT 🤣🤣🤣

What a tragic shame to such a shitty pathetic game already.

Overwatch was my first real online shooter, which I absolutely adored. I started playing this game in November 2016 and I loved it. All the characters were fun for me and I could play this game for hours without it taking the joy out of it. The events also added so much to the fun in the beginning. It was really fun to get cool skins for my favourite characters just by playing. Ranked wasn't my favourite mode, but I still had fun with it and even made it to Diamond, even though I'm not good at competitive games. Unfortunately, OW's path became very rocky over time. After a while it felt like every update made the game worse bit by bit. It can be broken down to a few factors that killed the game for me.

New characters:

The first characters that were added were fresh additions to the game experience that added to the fun. Ana even became my main very quickly. However, Doomfist was then added. His lore and teasers within the game were really cool, but unfortunately he was terrible gameplay-wise. He felt "technically broken" when playing and it was also annoying to play against him. Moira was also just annoying and uninteresting. And then she came along: Brigitte. This hero was so completely broken for almost years that she always dealt the most damage, the most healing and the most shield in the team. Every match against her took more and more of the fun out of the game for me. My personal low point, however, was wreckingball. Put yourselves in my shoes: I saw the teasers for Moonbase Horizon and these weird entries that are teasers for the new hero. Another highly intelligent animal that, like Winston, escaped the moon base and moved through the shafts. I was so hoping for a cool chimpanzee support that played similar to Winston and I was so invested in the lore behind it. In the end, the hero turned out to be a fat hamster in a mech. Nothing more than a bad gag character. I've never felt so taken for a ride. He also had the most annoying gameplay I've ever seen. The characters after that were all quite nice, but at that point I didn't really care about them. I even stopped playing when Echo was released.

Reworks of the characters: I don't think any of the reworks were really successful, because most of them took away a bit of the characters' identity rather than improving the gameplay and balancing.

Balance decisions: I hate that they reduced each character for one player per team. They wanted to make the game more competitive. If I had a bad round, the least I could do was have fun because me and my team picked Torbjörn 6 times and did stupid shit. That was taken away from me relatively quickly. After that came the role selection, which just made me hate the game. instead of trying out fresh creative comps, you were stuck with character roles in a set pattern. It didn't even improve the troll problem, it just made the game more toxic as you were now insulting your teammates because they didn't play their role properly and couldn't change. Towards the end of OW there were the weekly bans, which were probably the stupidest idea ever. I don't even know what that was supposed to fix.

For now, I've ranted enough. OW was one of my favourite games and I have a passionate opinion about it. Tragically, over time my love for the game turned to hate and I have to say that OW had one of the down falls I've ever witnessed myself.

Overwatch is an Online FPS with a unique art style. It is fast paced, intense and reminds a bit of Team Fortress 2.

In Overwatch, you can choose a trillion different heroes or characters to play as. You join one of the two teams and work together to complete a shared goal, while blasting away other players. It was actually a lot of fun, although I was (like many competitive shooters) not very good at the game.

The maps are fairly large and the many buildings, alleys and small areas make for a real witch hunt between players.

I always complain in some games, that graphics and art style are blend and could use a little more color, but Overwatch overdid it a bit in my humble opinion. There are more colors in one gun or character than in some entire games. This is not a bad thing normally, but in Overwatch, the many colors and different colored textures, made me not see enemy players very well. For me personally, they kind of blended in the surroundings sometime. I saw a street lantern with a bench in front of it, and emptied my gun, only to realize that I was seeing ghosts.

In terms of sound, Overwatch is all right. Guns sound fine, effects and explosions are good enough.

Overwatch controls very easily and smooth and the mechanics are easy to understand.

I am a little disappointed that games today just close their servers in favor of the next installment, forcing you to play and making the old game inaccessible. Blizzard is the prime example for this, in case the hint was not clear. Nothing lasts forever, but when you have some kind of solid player base, you should not do this.

After dying for the hundredth time, I was kind of done with Overwatch. It is not a bad game, but for me, it was just a little confusing, hard to read and overall, not that special. It also does not help that I just suck too hard for competitive online play.

In the end, I would recommend this game, if the servers were still up for the first game.

Overwatch, to me, is more than just a game - it's a cherished memory from my high school years. This extraordinary shooter stands out in the crowded genre with its emphasis on strategy, diverse characters, and unique abilities, making every match an unpredictable thrill. The vibrant world and engaging combat mechanics ensured that even after hours of gameplay, it never felt monotonous or repetitive.

Despite being primarily a multiplayer game, Overwatch introduces an alluring backstory for each character, adding layers of intrigue to the experience. While the narrative doesn't unfold traditionally and leaves us wishing for more, the lore that does peek through is engaging and rich, making us curious to know more about the heroes we control on the battlefield.

With all its charm and dynamic gameplay, Overwatch earns a well-deserved 5-star rating from me. Though it leaves us desiring a deeper exploration of the story, the overall experience still manages to captivate and excite. It's not just the mechanics but the personal journey this game offers that makes it an unforgettable cornerstone of my gaming life.

i have 2334 hrs on this dumb game (I played competitive mainly from 2017-2018, picked it up recently again but have been sticking to arcade which is way more fun x)

It has its problems but giving it anything less than 5 would feel wrong considering the above

I remember I even bought lootboxes at one point lmfaooooo - i was feral for those special event costumes!!!

I‘m not sure if a want to get all trophies for this game to show my love for the franchise and characters. The timed events make me friggin‘ nervous and nearly ruined this year‘s Christmas festivities. (Think about it, no one will play this in 2021 and you’ll be locked out of 100% forever)

Not as much staying power as TF2, even though it has better looking cosmetics and updates. Overwatch's core gameplay is more ability driven, which feels frustrating in the meta of the game. Certain team compositions and synergy can really outplay you. It's not as much about aim/skill as it is about countering each other with abilities.

Can be really, really fun with friends and it's a gorgeous game with tons of charm, I don't feel like it's fit to be a competitive fps. Will see where Overwatch 2 takes us, the PvE elements of the game have a lot of potential!

since people posted 'best of year posts' i began to look up things on my shel(ves) and i noticed an odd thing. There are MANY games that do not have release dates in grouvee database for some reason! :o

Many of these games DO have logged 'releases' with dates associated with their platforms (PS4, PC, linux, etc).
Many of these games are also old and have no other info.
Some of these games are steam re-releases of older titles or they are games that have potential discrpancy with the release date.

I been trying to plug up some of the ones on my shelves but its maybe something to look into. It seems that it's unable to sort the sort filter for 'date released' and reverts to 'date added' :o

in this case for Overwatch, i'm thinking the Switch re-release did something, and before that, there was a date.

Back in 2016, I bought lunch at Taco Bell; because Taco Bell is good, and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. My lunch came with a contest code that I texted in the next morning. And, boom! I won a PS4 launch copy of Overwatch. I've been playing the game ever since.

However, last night, after hundreds & hundreds of hours of playtime over the last three years, I came to a conclusion: I think I hate this game.

"WHOA, WHOA, WHOA, Brad," you say. "Why are you giving it five stars then, you big dumb dummy? It's on your Top 25 Games of All Time List, for Chrissakes!"

Well, for most of the time I've played Overwatch, it was the perfect form of entertainment. As a 40-year-old jumping into his first multiplayer FPS since Doom II, I was never particularly good at the game. But, by God, bouncing & booping around as Lucio or DVa in Gold-level competitive matches has been some of the most fun I've ever had in any videogame.

• Got 20 minutes to spare? Play some Overwatch!
• Wife's out of town? Play Overwatch for 8 hours straight!
• It's 8am and I should be leaving for work right now? Nah -- call in sick and play Overwatch!

But now -- three years in -- people have moved on. They're playing Apex & Fortnite & Destiny 2 & Seige & all of the great singleplayer games that have come out recently. But not me. I keep playing Overwatch... along with the remaining insanely diehard & insanely good players and their thirty-five throwaway PSN accounts that they use to troll people down in the scrub tiers -- namely, me.

"Gamers" have ruined Overwatch to the point where my occasional urge to play is immediately followed by me raging at some anonymous online a-hole bragging about his Grandmaster main account and how everyone else on the team should die of cancer. And when I find myself sitting at dinner, fantasizing about the most hateful & hurtful way I could've told the troll in my earlier game to kill himself, I realize that there's something seriously-seriously wrong with me playing the game anymore.

So... My message to yesterday's rancid hate-spewing troll, "Zenyutta"? Thank you. Thank you for breaking me of my Overwatch addiction. You helped me realize how much fun I have playing other games. I forgot how much I liked Final Fantasy.

I really love this game. Since I got this game in summer of 2017, I have sank in 570 hours in to this game. Here are some of my thoughts on the game.

Pros:

1.Amazing heros

2.Great art

3.there is a hero for everyone, no matter if you love mechanics, tactics, or just some quick fun.

4.the custom games

5.the events (for the most part)

6.the music

7.play of the game

8.the UI is one of the best I have ever seen

9.the Controls

10.the movement is fluid

(I did not include the shorts and the lore because that is outside of the main game)

As much as I love this game, Im not going to forget about the issues this game has.

Cons:

1.Toxic players (although it is even worse in online discussions like reddit and the forums)

2.recycled events that add nothing but cosmetics(except archives)

3.the devs often times nerf the symptoms of metas before nerfing what is causing it

4.Poor report system

1. Poor balancing choices (for some reason, it says 1, even though i typed 5 in front, and the spacing is being displayed strangely)

I will be playing this game for a long long time.
