I did it! I beat the hardest secret boss of the game.

I want to thank @BMO for his invaluable advice on improving my build and to Maelle's Burning Canvas, the most broken skill I've ever seen.

It's fun knowing I'll never get the last achievement in the game because I don't want to complete any more of these loathsome challenges.

Strangely I am digging the interactive combat with the parry, dodge, jump, and augmented strike mechanics. My view on turn based RPGs is set back in the old days of the original FF7 and I haven't seen much of the evolution over the year. Maybe these mechanics aren't so new to this genre, but it is new to me.

How this game goes for the most part.
First 1-3 times fighting a bad guy: get my ass handed to me.
Next 1-3 times fighting a bad guy: start figuring patterns out, but still fail towards the end.
Final 1-3 times fighting a bad guy: Memorize patterns, parry like a boss, figure out the right skills to use, conquer.

The initial premise that hooked me is largely discarded in favor of a tired and overdone twist, which massively narrows the focus of the game's world for little benefit. Said twist is unsubtly hinted at far too early and revealed far too late, leaving a huge stretch of the midgame where the plot furiously spins its wheels. The big new character introduced in Act 2 is deeply boring/repellent, and his dull story sucks up most of the rest of the game's runtime. Worst of all, the

On the gameplay side it's not much better. Parries remain fun and there's some decent dungeon design throughout, but the equipment and skill systems quickly push the combat into a mindless nothing. Characters have a solid selection of skills and weapons to choose from, but besides Lune they've all got 2-3 best-in-class options that you'll spam over and over til the end of the game. There's dozens upon dozens of passive buffs that your party can equip, but so many of them offer free damage and AP increases that there's very little reason to ever consider using the more niche options. And all that free damage compounds upon itself to the point that every enemy and boss you encounter starts going down before they get a single chance to attack, even on the harder difficulties.
The music's near-constantly great, and the art direction's excellent outside a few repetitive environments, but the rest of Clair Obscur sorta fell off a cliff for me.

I have a lot of gripes with the final act mainly on a gameplay level, I think the awful balancing on how powerful builds can be made the endgame unimaginably easy even on expert difficulty. Without looking anything up just making builds on my own, I was able to deal tens of millions of damage at the very beginning of the final act. I have never played such an easy RPG in my life. First act I thought the gameplay was fantastic, second act I was starting to see the cracks since even then you can make some crazy busted builds on certain characters very easily, and in the final act it was just a struggle to try NOT to kill everything in one hit, even the big superbosses. I removed everyone except one character from the party for the final boss, I did not use any counter attacks or gradient counters, I did not use any skills or free aim shots, I unequipped my best weapon for my build, and even then it was easy. I do enough damage in one skill usage that I could have killed the final boss of the game if it were stacked on top of itself 50 times in just one turn. And from my understanding my build isn't even the top of how strong it gets, like I heard people say they were getting over a billion damage in one turn. Fantastic game I just thing the endgame is pretty abysmal in terms of GAMEPLAY ONLY. Everything else was master class
