I don't know how, but I completely missed this game when it came out. I'm playing it now on PS5 via backwards compatibility mode for the PS4 version and it's incredible. In fact it reminds me a lot of the bombastic Incredible Hulk game. It's cheesy, silly at times, very "game-y", but man the gameplay is timeless. Smashing stuff up and jumping off rooftops just doesn't get old.

I'm only a few hours in but I already knew that I had to post something about the attention to detail in the game. The traversal is a highlight right from the start. I'd love to look at some Spider-Man games and see who perfected the whole wall running thing first because this game does it extremely well, and again it reminds me a lot of the wall running in the Hulk games. Even leaping from car to car in the street is an excellent touch (cars handbrake skid towards you as you run at them which is a nice detail).

If you stop sprinting along walls you'll skid and try to slow your fall by scraping your hand down the wall as you fall, but if you stop moving the movement stick in the direction of the wall you'll just free fall to the ground which is another neat detail. Gliding is really fun too, come to think of it, I wonder if Spider-Man 2 did take any inspiration from Prototype...

This is the "we have Spider-Man at home"

All jokes aside, I love this anti-hero approach. It's also refreshingly gory; there's been too many times in games (especially superhero games) where I've gone "a limb should have come off there" but here limbs do fly off, and explode! I'm really getting the feeling that they've made a conscious effort to put the fun factor front and centre!

Drop a las dos horas. Nada que me interese por aquí. Es un gustazo recorrer toda la ciudad únicamente con la fluidez de las mecánicas, pero nada más.

An underrated gem that is definitely worth paying attention to. This game is one of the best representatives of this genre. Incredible superpowers, an open world, complete freedom of action, spectacular battles, and an interesting plot. The game has a wide upgrade tree and the choice of abilities is really impressive. The player can switch the set of mutations at any time. Over time, the character evolves into a real killing machine that almost nothing can stop. Destroy the army with a direct attack, break helicopters in the air and crumple tanks like paper, or infiltrate the base unnoticed, disguise yourself as one of the military personnel and commit sabotage - the choice is yours. Graphically, the game looks pretty good for its time. The atmosphere of New York dynamically changes from calm to a complete apocalypse. To learn more about the story, Alex Mercer needs to absorb the DNA of people involved in the events that took place. Over time, the truth is revealed. In the end, the plot is capable of surprising. The biggest drawback of the game can be considered an overpowered final boss, which will force you to repeatedly start a difficult battle over and over again. Regardless, the game turned out to be great.

Prototype - Dropped

Edgy

That's all the game is really, edgy schlock draped over an uninteresting open world with uninteresting mashy combat and a very by the numbers bleh story that I honestly felt a huge drive to just not watch the cutscenes after a half hour in.

The movement's cool, that's the game's biggest saving grace and its only clear positive. Movement is fluid and has mechanical depth to it, it's like Spiderman 2 but with more mechanics to it other than web slinging feeling good. If it wasn't for this movement I'd probably say the game is bad.

It's fundamentally average overall, and i'm not going to put my time in anymore than I have. (4.5/10)
