As far as a sequel goes, this delivers more of the same wonderful art style and easygoing, relaxing gameplay with small changes like new ingredients and the ability to give items you find left at the counter to the correct characters to progress the story. While it was still an enjoyable gameplay loop, this follow-up did not grab me as much as the first for some reason. Some of the conflicts/interactions between the characters felt a bit inflated and melodrama-y in my opinion. And I still cannot do the latte art to save my life (not to the fault of the game, I just suck at it). I still had a good time, but I don't think this one is going to stick with me as much as the first one did.
I enjoyed this one as much as the first Coffee Talk. You get more comedy imo in this one along with finishing up some stories from the previous game. You can get different endings pending on drinks and choices. I'd love to see another Coffee Talk. Perks are the rainy days, the rain and coffee house music just go perfect together.
Sadly, Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly can’t match up to its predecessor. It lacks the emotional impact of the first game that meant it stuck with you long after completion. There are still some very touching moments towards the end, depending on how you choose to play it, and the additional endings are welcome, but this reunion of old friends and acquaintances is lacking the same spark that the first game had to spare.
Despite finishing it and doing some achievement hunting, I dont feel comfortable giving it a review because I really dont like visual novels and probably wouldnt play this if I didnt find the drink making aspect enjoyable and if I didnt play the first game. Visual novels to me feel like im just watching a movie but with extra work because I have to click all the time and the movie is boring because the characters arent moving. I tried a couple hoping to like them but its a fail every time.
Sidenote, does anyone know a coffee/drink making game (can be mobile too) in like a papas style of game? The drink making aspect here really made me crave a game like that.
Excited to see a sequel to this. Not much game in the original, but I really liked it. I need to go back and finish all the not perfect orders so I can wring all the juice out of the endings and then boot this up.
If nothing else, I'm really looking forward to serving the lactose intolerant cop milk again. 😊
