Well I didn't hate it and most of the bugs are superficial.
That's not exactly a glowing recommendation is it, so let me explain.
I didn't experience a single game breaking bug or crash throughout. I did see a number of graphical glitches, the occasional unusual or inaccurate result, a few spelling mistakes. Nothing that ruined my experience.
The writing is still witty and kept me engaged. I got frequently lost from things not being explained well and a lack of map or way point markers. You could argue this is better than being sign posted everywhere, but being lost is not fun to me.
The golf is still as solid as in Golf Story. Many of the other sports are paper thin and felt like trow away additions made to justify the Sports Story name. It's not even clear that you've actually beaten the game! I had to check a walkthrough...

Despite all this... I still had a good time. They just didn't go all in. It feels like a game they just didn't have the skills to finish properly. Too ambitious perhaps. It doesn't deserve the hate it got, but I do wish they'd just stuck to golf.
Sports Story is easily the biggest disappointment for me from the Switch library. Sports Story is the follow up to the surprise hit Golf Story. The developers tried to go with a larger scope this time around, and forgot to make the rest of the game fun while doing so. The core golf portions of this game are still entertaining, but it's too few and far between. Tennis is pretty largely built out to where the entire tennis portion will take several hours. The other new sports here are typically relegated to just a few mini games played in a new area in between playing some of the golf. The story still has some funny bits, but feels like a massive step down from the prior entry. All of this would still put the game at maybe 3.5 stars? I cannot in good faith recommend this game though in its current state. It is buggy as heck and would completely crash the game to the Switch main menu a few times (including midway through the final gauntlet of the game). It is buggy as heck and would completely crash the game to the Switch main menu a few times (including midway through the final gauntlet of the game). The tennis portion is horribly broken to where the game just doesn't seem to understand who to give points to and when. I would serve an ace, and somehow my opponent would get the point. Other times it would even remove points from the overall score. Every other play session I would have to close the game out and open it back up as there would be some kind of error or bug preventing me from being able to advance the story. After how fun Golf Story was, this was such a massive let down.

Shelving this for now. It's hard to get into it for some reason. It feels weirdly uncomfortable, especially considering how much I liked the first game.
