Starbound is coming into a genre that most people either love or hate. I really wonder if there is room in someone’s schedule for yet another crafting game. Starbound is certainly a good one of those, but it doesn’t really stand out among the many challengers.

I came expecting terarria,I got missions based terarria with a story that's not very needed.

I thought it was alright, but the initial release put me off it and I stuck with Terraria instead. I might want to try out the story from the updates after I stepped away, though.

Best. Game. Ever. End of story

It may look like a small imdie sandbox rpg, but this has loads of content. You can trade, have custom weapons, dash around in morphballs and mechs, build detailed bases, farm, and so much more. The reason I bought a PC is because I wanted to play this game. Even better, installing mods off of steam makes the game feel much more amazing. They aren't like Minecraft mods where you aren't playing the real game; they add more to the fun and adventure of it. I've recommended this game to almost everyone I know. 12/10.

Goin' back to Starbound for a bit. Haven't played in like a year, and have kinda missed the chill vibes it gave off.

This is more of a review-in-progress, but I'll only update it if I come across something that drastically changes my opinion. I'm far enough into the experience to know what it's about, for the most part.

This is more of a review-in-progress, but I'll only update it if I come across something that drastically changes my opinion. I'm far enough into the experience to know what it's about, for the most part.

I'm not going to go into the differences between this and Terraria, or talk about which has more of whatever, because while I loved Terraria, I wasn't hardcore enough to go into that much detail. With that said, Starbound is a huge game and I think in a lot of ways--the UI, the streamlining, the stuff you can do, upgrades--it is better than Terraria. It's focused more on exploration than combat, which is fine, and it's certainly nice to have so many different types of planets to explore.

It's good having quests like this, even if the story is bland and uneventful. The side-quests amount to basically going here and collecting that, but when the game puts you on the track to explore a dungeon, it's a lot of fun.

I have one gripe with this game and it's huge: the quests in which you have to go around and scan civilizations are boring. Their intent must be to encourage exploration, but I find that it actually made my journey more singular, because it was no longer about wanting to find all the different stuff... it was just about finding this one thing. When I would stumble across another area, I'd just think, "Ugh, this isn't where I want to be.". I wasn't enjoying trying to find the right places, and you could easily just wander past them for a long time. Maybe this isn't a popular criticism but it detracted from the game a lot. Regardless, I am not in love with this as I was Terraria.
