While it’s been a long wait, it does seem that The Astronauts are finally rounding the final corner on the project. Whether you’ve been playing along during early access or you’re holding for full release, the wait is nearly over. “As they say, art is never finished, only abandoned,” Chmielarz says. “It’s easy for us to keep adding and expanding, but the game is already meaty and substantial enough. The 1.0 version is going to be exactly what we always dreamed it would be. So, it’s time to focus on delivering that 1.0.”
The development team has been outspoken in the games industry about an insistence on human and handcrafted development, insisting that not a single asset be created by AI. In an increasingly complex world of development, that’s a tough job, and it’s likely prolonged the development cycle. But as we approach final release, I’m hopeful that the wait has been worth it. Witchfire looked and played beautifully more than two years ago; here’s hoping the extra time lets it be something truly special.
