I finished the first ending (apparently with 100% completion, so this must be a 150% completion or something game, because I know I still have things to do.)

And I hear the second final boss is insanely hard, but I will attempt it.

Anyway my thoughts as I'm nearing the end of my Hollow Knight journey have not changed, this is a staggering accomplishment by the devs. I am in awe of their talent. It's an absolute masterpiece and can only be spoken about with the same reverence as the very best in the genre.

I know I will be playing this game again in the years to come. Can not be recommended highly enough.

I'm now well into the game and have unlocked most areas, and this might be the greatest Metroidvania I've ever played. Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are both masterpieces and are the founders of the genre, but this game is just wonderful in every way.

Just started the game, I have been waiting a year to play this for the Switch, and so far it's blowing my expectations out of the water. Metroidvanias are my favorite kind of games, and I love the Souls series and so far this is a wonderful combination of both, along with possibly the most beautiful 2D art I have …

Even Ori isn't as beautiful.

I was really, really excited about this one, but I've come away from it with really mixed feelings. I love the feel, I love the style. I just feel like it's a game that wants you to explore, but punishes you for doing so. The Souls-esque "you drop everything when you die and need to recover it" mechanic feels kind …

I was really, really excited about this one, but I've come away from it with really mixed feelings. I love the feel, I love the style. I just feel like it's a game that wants you to explore, but punishes you for doing so. The Souls-esque "you drop everything when you die and need to recover it" mechanic feels kind of antithetical to exploration. I don't want to spend a while diving into deep, difficult sections just to lose everything and have to backtrack. Especially when I don't have a map for the area and have no idea where to go. It just made me never want to explore, because the trek back to recover my stuff always made me feel like it wasn't worth the effort. Really want to love this game, but there are just some fundamental design decisions here that bug me.

Finished this with just over 80% completed. Enjoyed the art style and general atheistic, found the bosses pretty challenging actually.

Started to drag near the end so decided to not go for 100% and just finish up.

I'm not even done playing yet and can confidently say that this is a contender for GOTY for me. Everything about this game is incredibly addicting, and the progression doesn't leave you wanting. I appreciate that you can't get by--and may even kill yourself constantly--by spamming attacks. The timing and cadence of how you play matters, and potions aren't just a free stat-for-gold investment. With the right charm setups you can completely alter the way you play the game, too. The art, ambience, and music are very compelling; overall, this is a phenomenal offering from a little Kickstarter company that I hope goes for the long haul.

Wow. I'm consistently blown away by Hollow Knight and I can see that it will definitely be a GotY contender for 2017. Wow. I'm consistently blown away by Hollow Knight and I can see that it will definitely be a GotY contender for 2017. I expected the gameplay to be fun, but I wasn't expecting this world to be so beautiful and immersive. At this new location the rain falls constantly and there's this haunting, swirling music which just pulls at the heart strings, really drawing out the sadness of this dead city, a city that was once great and is now strangely silent and abandoned. Also, at this point I'm actually surprised that the game costs only $15 on Steam, it's starting to feel more like a $30 game at least, there's so much quality and attention to detail here, and the game world is gigantic. enter image description here

Right down in the very guts of the world, deep in this underground poisonous swamp I met this fine lass! It's clearly a subtle reference to Dark Souls, Maneater Mildred. I thought that was super cool. Though I would probably place this game in the metroidvania category, there's definitely lots of Souls influence.
