Stronghold: Crusader is the successor to Firefly Studios's 2001 game Stronghold. Crusader has much in common with the original Stronghold, but differs from its predecessor in the fact that the game is no longer set in a pseudo-Europe, instead being set in the Middle East during the Crusades. The game features a multitude of new Arabian units that can be purchased in a new building, the mercenary post. The game features a multitude of new Arabian units that can be purchased in a new building, the mercenary post. Though the Arabian troops do not require any weapons to produce, they are rather expensive. The game was also released as Stronghold Warchest. This version was a compendium of Stronghold and an enhanced version of Stronghold: Crusader, containing additional characters and an additional Crusader Trail. Stronghold Warchest was only released in limited number of countries (i. e. USA or Poland), meaning players in the rest of the world have never encountered the second Crusader Trail, or second set of characters. This changed when an updated version of Stronghold Crusader, Stronghold: Crusader Extreme was released in early 2008. Less

A below average RTS, A very good Castle Sim.
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

Stronghold Crusader is my Childhood.

I used to play it almost Daily doing all crazy stuff, making maps, editing the AI's castles, I used to enjoy it a lot back then while not noticing much flaws aside from Changing the colors.

I recently replayed it alongside the original Stronghold and i didn't have so much fun playing it.

The 2 games are filled with AI problems from the ground up, and while the stupidity of the AI can be fun most of the time it can be irritating and Annoying in others.

I did enjoy building a Castle and seeing how everyone goes on their days doing their basic stuff but I also did not enjoy the RTS and how it functions.

TL:DR is the title.

The RTS for me

This game is probably the one game i had the most playtime out of. it is clearly not a perfect RTS game, but it's a perfect RTS game for me. A focus more on building the castle instead of micromanaging troops. great resource system. Just enough troops variety. Other people are looking for different things on an RTS, but not me.

I just returned to play this game again in the past few days, and oh my, the changes a small patch could make! I highly recommend you go back and try this game again with this UCP patch. it is literally a game changer. I also been playing this game since childhood, but for some reason, there were more hidden content in the game that I was not aware of. it somehow manages to stay alive even after 20 years! it is stupidly impressive how this game manages to outgrow itself with each passing day!
