Main game
Demo worked on Steam Deck though controls felt difficult. I couldn't figure out how to
This is for the demo, and EA hasn't even started yet. Please keep that in mind.
Initially, the game froze twice on my system before it started working properly, although the frame rate isn't as stable as I would have liked. Then, when I tried to pet, feed and clean my horse's fur and hooves, all of these animations were extremely short and unsatisfying. Perhaps it improves if the horse likes you more? If not, then that's just bad. There was absolutely no chemistry whatsoever between the character and the horse. The horse also walked off multiple times for no apparent reason at least not to find food or out of interest in the other horses. 🤷🏻♀️
I used the 'adventurer riding mode' and there's another one that I haven't tried yet which might be more 'realistic'.
What I definitely like is the setting, because it's fresh and new to me at least. On the other hand, there was hardly any voice acting, and the people I talked to were stiff figures with hardly any movement. There was no one walking around the settlements, no playing children, not even a wandering dog or a chicken. The scenery looked good, but …

There was no one walking around the settlements, no playing children, not even a wandering dog or a chicken. The scenery looked good, but again there were no animals around — I didn't see a single bird. Perhaps this part of the world just doesn't have many animals, or only ones that are hard to spot?
As a base for Early Access, it seems OK, but it has a long way to go to become a decent full game. I wish it well though. Please let me pet the horse for more than two seconds and make it look as if I've actually touched it. Give me a close-up when I feed my horse. After all, this is a "horse girl" game, so there needs to be more contact/emotion between horse and rider. Again, maybe this is already implemented when your horse likes you more, as there seems to be something like a 'trust factor' which is nice.
I don't remember why I have this on my wishlist, but it's got a nextfest demo and.. it's quite good? You canter through the Mongolian steppe exploring new areas and making deliveries. You need to feed your horse and make sure it's clean and your cargo is balanced. Before going to a mission you need to look at the map and plan your journey so you avoid difficult terrains and, if it's far away, make sure there's somewhere for your horse to drink. It's got that Death Stranding feel to it. A mode with no map markers would be neat, and I hope they are planning on adding responsive terrain so areas that you trot through often turn into actual trials you can follow.
