I love the fact that you can juggle the bad guys endlessly even after they're dead. Including the bosses.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Avengers: Annihilus Revenge

A very simple beat 'em up that offers immediate fun without much fuss. It has afantastic cast of playable characters and lots of love for the comic book universe (despite a mediocre story loosely inspired by the Annihilation saga). It has afantastic cast of playable characters and lots of love for the comic book universe (despite a mediocre story loosely inspired by the Annihilation saga). That said, I think veteran gamers might be disappointed by the lack of difficulty, few incentives to use different strategies, and lack of innovation in a genre that is becoming increasingly repetitive.

And yet, it has a playable She-Hulk so everything is forgiven.

The demo is out and it's pretty fun. Played through it twice with my girlfriend. Here's some thoughts.

  • Game is super simple. There's no such thing as a combo system and while assists do add an extra dimension to the game, they feel a bit spammy. It's not bad, just a bit mindless. Im also hoping they add more variety or levels to the super attacks, as they seem to just be AoEs that you can activate twice every 30 seconds.

  • I love how different heroes do things differently. Like yeah obviously they play differently, but I really like the little details like replacing counter attacks with dodges for sneakier heroes, or how some specials use ammo.

  • I love the distinction between flying and ground heroes. A lot of enemies stay above you on a sort of second plane as they attack, and some heroes having the ability to swap to this plane is a really neat idea.

  • Most enemies seem to be random annihilation wave goons, which kinda gets repetitive, but there does seem to be some variety with other villains showing up to break the pace.

I liked it! Game is releasing this year but there's still no date. I'm just hoping they don't shadow drop it.

I picked Wolverine as the main character and Rocket as my secondary character. The controls were simple and the comic-book style modern pixel art was well done, but the game itself just felt...meh & repetitive? Maybe you really have to play it co-op with multiple people on a difficulty level that would metaphorically eat your quarters in order to get the most out of this guy.
