So as an enormous fan of Smash Bros. in all its iterations I make it a habit to try every platform fighter that comes out to see how they stack up. So how do the cartoon Nick stars of our childhood stack up against every video game character ever? Well as far as gameplay feel this is the most satisfying non-Smash platform fighter outside of Rivals of Aether. Combos are fun, and pretty build a bear as you go, which is good for a platform fighter. The characters do have their own unique feel, though for some its very hard to get an idea of what the gameplan for them should be and balance is all over the place right now. With 4 people this is a great time to just mash some fun out and occasionally see Catdog combo Korra to death. But with the positives out of the way, pretty much all the package around the fighting is ROUGH. I don't want to come down too hard as I feel like it was more a budget issue than a lack of talent, but the animations are inconsistent from character to character, with some being passable and others being …

I don't want to come down too hard as I feel like it was more a budget issue than a lack of talent, but the animations are inconsistent from character to character, with some being passable and others being downright broken. The music is hilariously awful with only a few tracks being remotely appropriate for a fighting game, which is not helped at all by the total lack of voice acting, and below average sound design. And Sweet Christ the load times. Playing on Switch it takes over half a minute for the match to load regardless of the number of players, which is doubly frustrating in Arcade mode, where if you kill your opponent fast enough you will spend more time in load screens than fighting. There's other areas of the UI, menu layout, and general modes and stuff that could also use some polish. But again, I don't want to be mean as at the core of all that mess is a very well done core fighting engine with a solid roster of well loved characters, even if they don't look sound or really play as much like themselves as I'd like in some cases. I'm hoping the game does well, and that the developers get the opportunity to improve the games other aspects post launch, but as it is right now this is definitely not the "Smash killer" the clickbait Youtube thumbnails make it out to be. That being said Smash get some fucking rollback you cowards.
Read LessSo I wasn't following the release of this at all, but decided to snag it on release day when I saw it on here. I've sunk a few hours into it, and that's about all you need to get a feel for what the game is.
The roster is decent. They've got to have some DLC planned. We've got Aang, Korra, and Toph, but no Zuko, or even Katara? We've got two of the TMNT (Leo and Mikey) but not the other two? Also, there are just a lot of other Nick characters that they could totally be using from other shows that weren't included at all.
There aren't any items or any really big, fancy attacks, but they did a good job of including well-known traits/scenes as moves (Patrick slamming the phone down, Patrick in the ice cream cone, SpongeBob's "imaginaaaation" rainbow, etc.). I like this attention to detail, but I hope it all gets scaled up and a little more chaotic eventually. (Sidenote: I did notice, while playing with Aang last night, that when his percentage hit red/around 80%, his normal B attack turned into a swirl of all four elements around him that hits pretty hard. I wouldn't call it the Avatar State, but noting it because I'll have to see if everyone has a "desperation" move like that.)
The music is actually pretty solid. Most of the stages have some good jams. The stages themselves are nice. Good combination of open stages and ones with more obstacles/platforms. Hopefully more of these will be added too.
The arcade is very straightforward: battle several characters in a row, sometimes choosing between two to fight. There aren't any minigames or anything in between stages. You unlock music for the jukebox and pictures for the gallery. I've only completed it with Aang, so I only have a few that are Avatar/Aang-related unlocked.
Overall, it plays pretty smoothly and it's a good throwback party game to enjoy with friends or alone. I do hope they expand the roster and maps, though.
it lacks single-player content and the online is not sure active, but the moves are all cool references, it has a ton of stages, characters, items, and now that it has voices the game has a lot more life in it, it's a cool game to change up the pace or play with friends, it's a shame it's lacking features from its lunch killed its momentum, but it's still a solid pick to get on a sale

I wanted to love this game, but it needs so much work
Despite having a solid roster full of decent characters to select, the game feels completely lackluster. It was fun for the first few minutes and quickly became a complete waste of time.
Some characters feel like they don't have a move set that matches their style. Others feel clunky, and some don't make sense at all. Despite having these flaws, the game is fun to pick up for a match or two, just don't expect to find anyone in the online matches.
Played a few rounds w/ my partner. It has potential but some of the characters just aren't effective at all (bummer if they're your favorite), and it is immediately jarring without voices. Is a Smash game a Smash game if you don't hear "PK fire/thunder" over and over and over and over again (but whatever the Nickelodeon equivalent is)?
So far Leonardo is my go to if I want to win, which is a shame because I would really like to play as Spongebob or something. My wishlist for characters:
Doug - basically the whole cast (how bizarre would it be to play a fighting game with like Chalkie vs. Mr. Dink?)
Rocko - At least Rocko, Heffer, and Fillburt
Fairly Oddparents - Timmy Turner (with fairies)
Rugrats - Suzie and Angelica. Can toddlers fight in video games? I wouldn't mind seeing Phil & Lil beat the snot out of the others.
Avatar - Zukko
The Angry Beavers
How funny would it be to have some throwbacks and live action people too? Like Eureeka's Castle, Muppet Babies, Salute Your Shorts... Alex Mack, Moira Quirk. The Agro Crag could be a stage. Sniz and Fondue!?
I’ve come across a few articles about this game with sentiments similar to the following:
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Is So Good Smash May Need To Watch Its Back
Yet all of the reviews I’ve read, including both by critics and by players is that it’s a solidly middle of the run game, a C or B grade brawler that isn’t terrible but could also be much better.
