Intro
Vermintide 1 is a 4-player co-op melee/shooter in which you fight ratmen while making your way through a map.
The Good
- Five classes.
- Four different melee and ranged weapons per class.
The Bad
- You only start out with two of each type.
- At the end of each game (20-40 minutes) you get a single randomly determined item.
- You can get upgraded versions of weapon types you already own.
- There's some awful crafting system that doesn't belong in this type of game.
- All enemies are Skaven (ratmen). Seriously, they couldn't even throw in some Beastmen or Daemons or whatever?
- Enemies of each type all look the same.
- Only two game modes.
- I only discovered that there's a bounty/contracts system because i happened to look at the DLC. This is what you get when you have a "room" interface instead of a proper menu.
- The game seems kinda basic. Other than grenades it lacks consumable weapons like Left4Dead 2 and it does not have static emplacements like World War Z.
The Ugly
This game was given away less than a month ago. Today's peak was 230 players. However, either game mode only had a single game i could join because most people were in private games for some reason. Vermintide 2 had 7,751 today. Everyone seems to have moved on.
Conclusion
I got this for free and i was still done with it after one game. It's mostly dead, has an awful progression system and the actual gameplay is not very interesting. World War Z and even Left4Dead 2 (from 2009!) are both better. And this is coming from someone who used to love Mordheim/WFB.
