You know those really likeable 7/10 games that you buy on sale and enjoy much more than you expected? This is this kind of game, even better if you're a FF fan since there's many references to other entries. It's cheap but surprisingly deep in terms of mechanics and it feels good to play. It reminds me a lot of FF Type-0 but with a more straightforward story and more job freedom if that makes any sense.

An interesting prologue to the 1st game set in an alternate universe. The story doesn't make much sense until the last hour and I dug the take on the series. The action is also a lot of fun - lot of variety with the classes you can switch between. A good 10-15 hour game if you dig into it.

Got all achievements in the main game and in all DLC. I think I enjoyed it more as a Final Fantasy fan than as someone who was super into the gameplay. I enjoyed the nods to long time series fans, and the story was bonkers but in a good way. Bit repetitive by the time I was done, and I …

Just beat this. Wow. I was expecting this to be kinda cringe and kinda good but it ended up being pretty darn good in general. Don't get me wrong, the story and cutscenes contain some rotten cheese but the actual story ends up really interesting. Gameplay I expected to be pretty tight, and that it was.

The game also offered FF-fanservice in surprising ways: it took me embarrassingly long to realize that the dimensions that game's locales are "modelled" after are other Final Fantasy games.

Let's see how the DLCs are.

Started playing this a couple of days ago. Was expecting tons of amusing cringe and explosive action. Well, at least the explosive action is offered in heaps but this is surprisingly gameplay-focused. The cutscenes are damn short that the incredible protagonist Jack doesn't get enough screentime and optional dialogs with townsfolk are amongst the most pointless content I have ever …

But playing the game is really fun. It's like a more forgiving Nioh thrown into a Final Fantasy setting with a Sekiro-esque posture meter. And you also have party members, which is kinda novel but doesn't add that much to the game though.

I'm in the weird purgatory of having no idea what to play next and also choice paralysis. So of course I went with none of the above and downloaded the demo for this.

Is this really hard or am I just bad at video games? I was doing okay in the very first part. But the second with all the bombs just kicked my ass. I'm on the easiest difficulty. I died twice and turned it off.

I want my ATB. 😭

Pretty fun game overall, but the combat gameplay is really all that carries it. The story had some potential but I don't think it was fleshed out enough to be very interesting. I like the jobs and equipment customization, however the gear upgrade system seems useless and kinda difficult to use. Also wish there was typical FF stuff like towns, …

I like the jobs and equipment customization, however the gear upgrade system seems useless and kinda difficult to use. Also wish there was typical FF stuff like towns, shops, gil, that is all missing from this game. Overall I found the combat systems fun to play and it felt very fluid and action packed compared to most recent FF games.

I really think Stranger of Paradise is going to be one of the best games on PS2! But in all seriousness, who is playing it on PC? I know people have sounded the alarm on how bad the port is but PC is the only way I have to play it right now. I only played it for 15 minutes …

I only played it for 15 minutes last night and spent most of that time messing with the settings.

I'm about ready to quit this shit over the simple fact that I have to press down on the D-pad about 47 times before it will FINALLY USE A POTION. I've died so many times because it will never fucking heal when I'm pressing the button to do so over and over and it's just doing NOTHING.

This latest demo they put out is pretty meaty and fun. Repeats stuff from the last demo, but the progress carries over into the final game apparently, so no reason not to jump on there. This latest demo they put out is pretty meaty and fun. Repeats stuff from the last demo, but the progress carries over into the final game apparently, so no reason not to jump on there. The game’s storytelling in its first few hours is looking a bit awkward, not the worst, but not particularly well-executed. The gameplay is fun, though, just as I remembered from the first demo. Main point of awkwardness there is an oversaturation of loot which has me jumping into the menu too often to re-select the “Optimize gear” option. I like the opening hours enough to go ahead and buy the game and keep going on Tuesday when it unlocks early for pre-orderers.

Apparently a new demo for this dropped or is about to drop. Do I want to bother and see what has changed?

This time they added the Series X|S to the trial, along side the PS5. I guess that might help a few people access it, but there still no PS4, Xbox One or PC trial, despite the fact that …
