Finished the story and loved it. There are definitely valid complaints I've seen regards to the changes made, but I'd much rather have retelling of the story than a straight remaster style remake. If you're looking to see the original story again the original game is still great 20 years later.

I finally rolled the credits on FFVII:R today and absolutely loved it! I'm going to write up my personal review soon to detail my thoughts on the game and post it later. In short, I can see why some players may feel like there is some "fluff" to the game but that's not my take on it. There was an astonishing amount of detail throughout the entire game which made its presentation absolutely breathtaking. As such, it made a lot of the backtracking and side quests very interesting since I would often pick up on small details that I had missed the first time around.

I've heard and read often that players feel like Square Enix just stretched it out but I don't feel that way at all. I feel as though they were able to explore a lot of character detail that wasn't possible at the time the original was made.

Sure it wasn't perfect. but we can say that about any game out there. When you take that out of the equation, I feel like Square Enix has been very faithful to the original and breathed so much life into the characters that we love. I'll be going into more detail about how I feel about the characters when I review it. Until that time, I can't recommend this game highly enough!

This game kicked ass, but the last 2 or 3 chapters were so difficult (for me) that I'm reconsidering a hard mode playthrough. Trophy hunting will also be a pain in the ass since a few chapters have to be played multiple times to get everything (ex. bridal outfits). I might move on to the original and try finishing it, …

Trophy hunting will also be a pain in the ass since a few chapters have to be played multiple times to get everything (ex. bridal outfits). I might move on to the original and try finishing it, or do something else. Nonetheless, I loved this game. I hope I can get the LE OST when it comes out on 5/27.

Incredibly mild (not even) spoilers. But just in case. When Cloud turns up on the bike in Shinra HQ. fist pumps for eternity

The only things I find frustrating now are some of the little dumb combat things (getting interrupted out of an action because of the animation is a mega pet peeve of mine in any game). Also, for fights that they force you into long range...I mean what are they expecting me to do there? I can plink away with Barrett and fill his gauges, but for Tifa/Cloud they just have to sit there like idiots running in circles until they can cast Thunder or something. I feel like there's maybe something I'm missing because of how clunky the long range fighting is. Like does Cloud have a sniper rifle nobody told me about?

This game is so good. I'm really considering calling out of work tomorrow so I can play it some more.

EDIT: I called out and I played it more, but not as much as I'd hoped.

I should have played the demo before buying this. I don't know why I didn't it was a dumb move on my part. Everyone told me that the game was amazing, so I just took their word for it.

I should have played the demo before buying this. I don't know why I didn't it was a dumb move on my part. Everyone told me that the game was amazing, so I just took their word for it.

The combat is way too frenetic, and reminds me of the Batman Arkham games, whose combat I very much disliked. It's just not really what I was looking for. That first boss as tough for me because I had trouble paying attention. I didn't feel like I had enough control for the combat to be fully active, but also don't have enough control for it to be passive, either. I get that that's the entire thing, jumping back and forth between action and menus with one feeding the other. I guess I just don't like that middle ground.

I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying that I played the first hour or so and regret purchasing it.

Oh, and every time I want to open the menu to choose an ability I accidentally hit triangle instead of X. Every. Single. Time.

i love this game. i loved ffvii and ive played that one A LOT and i played through it again like last year so im a good target for this remake of one iof the most popular games ever made. im like five hours in so lets get down to my impressions so far and look theyre none of them crazy plot spoilers (i would not have been spoiled had i read these before playing) but if youre just seeing this on the grouvee homepage and want to go in totally blind then dont read this:

1. no 'texas' sign in the bar. ill portent. will there still be korean bbq??? NO SPOILERS PLZ 2. i like the characterization of cloud. its good. i like that he rides the line between 'cool' and 'totally checked out'. honestly the characterization of cloud feels more ffvii than the original ffvii... its a strange thing to feel but i feel it. 3. i like the motorcycle ride. i like the darts. please keep more silly stuff... the silly stuff is what makes this good. 4. i like seeing the materia on peoples equipment in the world renders. its good. 5. i like the characterization of jessie biggs and wedge.... look i never got very into fanfic and maybe this is what good fanfic is like but i feel like this just is ffvii act 1 but with the breathing room it deserves... i dont understand how they will make more of these because like many others i believe that midgar is the absolute heart of the game. how do you sell an ffvii remake part 2 or 3 or 4 when the best part wont be in them. then again theres fun stuff... i really like this so far. 6. i love looking up in the sky and seeing midgars upper plate. i love it. i love the quality of hte light that sector 7 gets... like being under the elevated tracks. ff7 rules. 7. another SOLDIER?? thank you. it is weird how big of an idea/concept that is to cloud, how important SOLDIER is to him but there are basically only three others in the first game and theyre the bad guy, which is yes important, but we barely see him as not bad, theyre zack who ... is hard to grasp, and theyre some random encounters in shinra spaces who are not even remotely difficult or impressive. so its nice to see what to expect from the cultural expectation of SOLDIER.

anyhow its fun and im gonna play more and i wish line breaks werent so complicated on grouvee

So I'm getting close to the end of Final Fantasy VII Remake (I'm about 30 hours in, and I know I'm close to the end because I've played the original). I've hit that weird place in games where I feel the need to stop playing so much because I don't want the game to end. I did this recently with the old PSX Lunar: SSSC (I'm at the final save point) and a couple of other games. I just like this game so much I don't want it to end, but I can't do anything but continue with plot. Back in the day, I would just restart the game. I restarted FFVII twice: first at the end of the first disc, then right before the last dungeon. I just needed more of the game and so just started again.

Does anyone else do this, or do you just beat the game and play it again?

Got my platinum trophy last night. Had a real good time with this. I have a blinding affection for this world and these characters, and I thought Remake did them justice. Like many, the original was my first JRPG and really opened the door to a lot of wonderful games for me. My feelings on the controversial ending are mostly positive. I don't love the execution but I'm fascinated with what it is trying to do.

I thought the hybrid action/command combat system was great. Felt like a fully realized version of that FFXV was trying to do, and mastering it in the hard mode playthrough of FF7R was very satisfying.
