Gave this a try for the first time last night. I was never all that interested in it before release and didn't play it until now, avoiding the rough beginning, so I feel like I'm going in fairly unbiased. It feels more like a unique experience to me than a "game", but I'm enjoying it. The slow learning of alien languages and discovering new elements appeals to me. My only concern at this point is that the game will go on long enough that the novelty of discovery will wear off.

This and Subnautica are genuinely the only times I've felt like I'm actually on something considered a "next gen console".

the best thing is, the world are fully developed. so you can raid/use already established automated farms and factories to get going (and they are pretty easy to find)

I used a portal to go to a space station so I didn't need to waste ship fuel...

and I guess my ship didn't like to be left behind

Just finished the Beachead Expedition in No Man’s Sky and here is my brand new Normandy SR1:

The expedition was quite fun, a couple days of essentially what was following a scavenger hunt full of activities. It is an enjoyable addition to the game’s various modes.

Decided to check this out on PS5 because I bought it back in 2016 and bounced off pretty quickly but I've heard they added a ton and the game is good now. Unfortunately, I have to say, it's still the same boring scavenge for materials and wrestle with your inventory gameplay I remember from way back when. And yet... I did end up putting around 4 hours into it last night despite the heaps of other things in my backlog. Should I power through? Is there even a story with an ending or is this just Minecraft in space? I could see it maybe being a pretty interesting experience if I really stuck with it but who has the time. Oh and there's still TONS of pop-in! It's PS5, man... I thought were past that.

My current fleet of personal starships, followed by images of the three most recent acquisitions.

I'm starting to worry I have finally run out of things to do. Now that I've completed the Starbirth mission, I don't have any mission based content left to complete. My ships are all S-class with a complete compliment of S-class upgrades (once I discovered that I could scrap ships for nanites I kind of went crazy). Same for my multi-tools and my exo-suit, everything is maxed. I reset the system the first time I played, so I am avoiding the centre of the galaxy this time. I really don't want to lose all the work I put into my bases. Thus it might be time to pack it in again soon. I do enjoy discovering new solar systems and planets, but just as the last time I played, that eventually comes to an end. I have really relished my renewed time in No Man's Sky, and I think I'll likely pop in every now and then rather than abandoning it completely, but it might be time to retire it as my daily gaming focus.

It's hard to decide which to keep in the long run, especially since I need to make room for a living ship.
