The story follows a nameless protagonist who lives in near-future Tokyo. When a portal to the realm of demons is opened, United States officials order a nuclear attack on Tokyo. Transported with two other supporting characters thirty years into the future, the protagonist finds the Earth ruined by a demon invasion, which is now the stage for an escalating conflict between the Order of Messiah and the Ring of Gaea, conflicting cults who wish to bring about kingdoms for their respective patron deities (YHVH and Lucifer). The story is influenced by moral decisions the protagonist makes, aligning him either with the Order, the Ring of Gaea, or setting him up as an independent agent. The gameplay uses first-person navigation of dungeons and turn-based battles against demons. The player can recruit demons as allies by talking to them rather than fighting them, and two to three demons can be fused to create new demons. Read less

I just found out Japan got this game included in their NSO classics library on Switch. How unfair.

Beat on Law path. I had already played some of the later games in the series, so I was familiar with the game mechanics. I started off with a focus on strength, stamina and speed, which was good because I missed out on the first gun store. I had to refer to a walkthrough multiple times due to the general user unfriendliness of the game (mainly to figure out what items and equipment were worth buying/keeping, a couple times to find out what I was supposed to do next, and once to make sure I did not break the game by getting the Gushing Jar too early). Also had to switch in the Japanese version twice to bypass bugs in the English patch.

Towards the end of the game I was getting sick of playing because of how unfriendly it is to get around the labyrinthine areas with inadequate in-game navigational aids. Ended up using a guide to make sure I got the best items, though I did not use it to help with navigation despite the fact that I had to traverse the hardest dark zone near the end twice.

Ended up around level 82 with a team consisting of: Vishnu, Indra, Cherub and Garuda.

This game is pretty cool so far, has some rough spots but has some really sweet ideas. It's got more variation and is less static thus more fun to play than many 16bit era Automapper-type cousins. Enjoying so far. #KaijuCollectingenter image description here Now I'm gonna go beat up some YAKUZA! By beat up i mean flay their miserable souls. Sic 'em with …
