Magical Taluluto-kun is a 1992 action game for the Sega Mega Drive by Sega and Game Freak to tie into Tatsuya Egawa's/Shueisha's Magical Taruruuto-kun manga, which had been recently turned into an anime by Toei Animation. Objects can only be used in the area they are found. You get a new magic power after every stage; hit Start to bring up a menu to choose one and A to use. Read less

I bought this years ago based solely on its developer, Game Freak, and more specifically its director, Ken Sugimori. I've been a fan since I was a kid, trying and failing to mimick his iconic Pokémon illustrations from a strategy guide my brother and I shared.

One of the game's many adorable environments

I bought this years ago based solely on its developer, Game Freak, and more specifically its director, Ken Sugimori. I've been a fan since I was a kid, trying and failing to mimick his iconic Pokémon illustrations from a strategy guide my brother and I shared.

Although the game itself is rather short, easy and repetitive, I smiled most of the way through because of its visuals. The game is so vibrant and colorful, it really stands apart on the Genesis/Mega Drive.

This might be the best looking cute-style game on the Genesis. Hard to believe that's not an SNES screenshot. enter image description here

It also has some really cool designs for characters. The kid character can have his cape turn into bat wings for instance.

It plays pretty average though. Fans of cuter styles should still give it a try.
