Grand Theft Auto V is a vast open world game set in Los Santos, a sprawling sun-soaked metropolis struggling to stay afloat in an era of economic uncertainty and cheap reality TV. The game blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game’s three lead characters, playing all sides of the game’s interwoven story.

Yesterday I finally setup Luke Ross' VR mod, downloaded a 100% save file, and went to town. Dang! Pretty incredible. I'm not a fan of this story gameplay stuff, so my GTA sessions are just sprees of degeneracy, So much more presence-full (and disturbing!) in VR though.

There are two VR mods in progress right now. This one is, AFAIK, the farthest along (with the gamepad) but the other one uses motion controls and is coming along too. Link: https://github.com/LukeRoss00/gta5-real-mod

Decided to play this game again. Previously I had tried it in the past but didn't like it. After playing RDR2 and gotten used to the controls I'll try again. So far I'm liking it. Controls are clunky but I'm getting used to them. Driving is a pain, but the rest of the game is great. Just did the Lifeinvader …

Overall pretty good game - great looking open world with lots of things to do and a good story. What I didn't like and I think needs improving (single-player): The game gives you the opportunity to change clothes, cars and really customize your character, but as soon as you start you next mission and your character's clothes change to the default one (I really hated Trevor's stinky tank top). Same think with the cars - you buy/steal it, spend a lot of money to customize it and there's no option to make it default. If you want to drive it you need to get your default car, go to the garage and select your preferred vehicle. It's inconvenient and that's why I stopped changing cars and clothes. Give us the option to change the default ones.

So, I haven't finished this game, and I doubt I ever will. Here are my grievances with the game so far:

The gameplay is boring

None of the characters are worth spending any time with

The story is excruciatingly uninteresting

The gameplay is boring

None of the characters are worth spending any time with

The game really thinks that it's funny, and it's really not at all. The "satire" at this game doesn't work at all, mostly because it's not really satire - they writers are satisfied with pointing out some ill in society, slightly exaggerating it, and then making fun of it the most juvenile and otherwise most feeble way possible. And what they choose to target for their "satire" is just so obvious, like reality TV or social media or celebrity culture or whatever, all things that have been satirized and analyzed and discussed to absolute death

I really don't see the hype, especially since these days there are a billion equally competent open world games out there. I mean, GTA V isn't even nearly as good as Sleeping Dogs, which came out a whole year before it.

Been playing this the past few days. Really impressed by the world, the immersion of it all, but the missions are kind of boring. I didn't realize how much of GTA is just driving, and GTA V seems to be mostly driving a large variety of vehicles. I'm up to the second heist, I think, and hopeful things get changed …

I never bothered playing GTA V, despite being a pretty big fan of the series, having played all of them, including the early 2D top-down ones. Always had a suspicious feeling about this one though.. it had rave reviews upon release, IGN 11/10, etc.. but as time as drawn on, it appears to be more like some kind of buggy Second Life-style game, a cancerous MMO full of trolls, microtransactions, loot boxes, predatory gambling practices and screeching 13 year olds on voice chat. Like, does it even have a single player offline mode? Just wondering, now that the hype has died down, or for those who have played it more recently, is it worth picking up and giving it a go now? (especially since I've seen it for $15 or less lately). Or was it just an over-hyped abomination after all?
