[ENG] In the modern day and age of first person shooters, a majority of them are now brutally flawed cashgrabs that rely on live service battlepasses or microtransactions in order to help them. But this? This game is not one of them. And I'm glad to tell you that this game is possibly, if not, the best FPS game on the market right now. So, what exactly really is ULTRAKILL? Well, imagine if DOOM Eternal and Devil May Cry along with classic Quake had a child with ADHD. That's the game in a nutshell. And it sure does one hell of a job showing you how well it plays, so don't let those PSX era graphics fool you. If there was one way I would describe this game, I'd say, pure unadaulterated carnage with a style meter. Aside from some of the references to media such as Devil May Cry & DOOM, the game has many mechanics that make you think that you mastered the game, but in reality you're just scratching the surface. To compliment with that, is probably one of the best soundtracks in any indie game as of now. Especially Act II's secret level, P-2: WAIT OF …

(seriously keygen church is amazing) But overall, yeah this game is a giant middle finger to all FPS games on the market, showing you that you don't need microtransactions or live service bullshit in order to be good. Just fast paced, blood pumping, adrenaline filled gameplay is all you need. A modern masterpiece of our generation.
Особенно секретный уровень второго акта, P-2: WAIT OF THE WORLD.
Spesielt Act II sitt hemmelige nivå, P-2: WAIT OF THE WORLD.
You can easily jump into the game, zoom through levels at lightning speeds, and destroy everything in your path.
I've played many games where switching weapons quickly felt like a chore, but here it's both effortless and satisfying. All the weapons are effective in their own way, unlike in Doom Eternal where you have to use a specific weapon for each enemy.
I love Doom Eternal for its unique strengths, but Ultrakill gets my vote for fast-paced chaotic action.
This is a current review after the Greed layer came out. I'll do a rereview for the full release because I'm getting impatient over not gushing this masterclass in game design.
DOOM Eternal is my favorite video game of all time. I adore the depth of its mechanics and how it's various enemies push you to problem solving, and its dynamic combat tramples every game in the market. It is one of the best games that I have ever played and I have never stopped playing it since day 1.
ULTRAKILL is also one of the best games that I have ever played and in my top 3 favorite games of all time. The differece between ULTRAKILL and DOOM Eternal is that it was made by mostly one guy and it's still in early access.
Arsi "Hakita" Patala started development of ULTRAKILL after scrapping a game that wasn't fun. This time, he focused on making it fun and on game feel before everything else and I cannot say anything bad about how this game feels. Eveything about it is perfect. The sliding is so smooth and chaining jumps is a lot more satisfying than say Titanfall …

Many of my all-time favorite games are games that push me to using their systems and ULTRAKILL is especially one of them. The thing that makes you switch your weapons is the cooldowns of alt fires. The alt fires are what make the game a lot more fun, but you can't be using one weapon all the time since the alt fires have to cool down, so you gotta keep switching weapons to kill time with another weapon before they recharge.
The amount of mechanics in ULTRAKILL is staggering, but if you invest in some tutorials and practice, it's a lot easier to manage and you definitely see a difference in yourself when it comes to how you play. Slam Storage is a big ass jump that launches you into space, but the trade off is that it would be hard to aim since most of the enemies don't follow you in air. But if you slide after a Slam Storage instead of jump, you perform Slam Slide Storage which is a fast slide and the momentum can be maintained by chaining slides. The dash jump is a far jump that requires less inputs compared to the Slam Slide Storage, but it does require 2 dashes, 1 if you're low but the effect isn't as good. Yoy can parry enemy projectiles to regain all of your health which is dope as all hell.
The Marksman Pistol is one of the coolest weapons ever put in a video game. The most straightforward thing you can do with it is to flick a coin and shoot it with your pistol, but there is a lot to do with the coin. Flick more coins at once for more damage. Shoot the coin the moment it sparks to split the shot or make the shot even stronger if you use the alternate fire. You can punch your coin so the ricoshot can deal even more damage. Juggling the coin by punching it increases the damage of the next coin punch. Shoot the coin with a railgun. It is insane how something so simple has mechanics that are jam packed with many ways to handle your foes. Shoot the core eject of your shotgun for a bigger explosion. Punch your shotgun shells for one of the pellets to explode. Damage yourself with a big boost in movement by overcharging your pumps. Dash right before the overpumped shot to deal less damage to yourself. There are 4 weapons and they still trample over 99% of shooters' weapons.
One of the taglines is that blood is fuel. The game pushes you to get close and personal with the enemies. With the new whiplash, which is the FPS equivalent of DmC Reboot's grapple hook, you can close in on enemies or let then close in on you. What you can do with it is so cool. You can enemy step to get even higher If you didn't like glory kills in modern DOOM games, Ultrakill is the answer to that.
If you go on Hakita's Twitter, @HakitaDev, you would know that he loves to talk about music and his love for it oozes down to the names of levels being references. Also, the soundtrack is really good. Check it out.
Go type in devilmayquake.com and tell me what shows up. You did? That's right, ULTRAKILL's Steam page. This game takes inspiration from Devil May Cry and Quake and revels in it. Down to references to DMC like Credo from DMC 4, Agni and Rudra from DMC 3, and Nero's Devil Bringer, and voice lines referencing the series like, "Behold, the power of an angel!" or "You make even the devil cry." The game has a style counter so you want to be as stylish as you consume blood.
I find the new Greed layer to be my favorite layer so far. Compared to every other layer, rooms feel less cramped and are these big open spaces. They give techniques like the Slam Storage moves more utility and are a breath of fresh air. I considered the final boss of the layer to be the coolest boss fight ever during my honeymoon phase, but
I adore this game to death, but if there's one thing I want Hakita to improve on, it's the AI of the husks. The ones that shoot just meander and shoot. They don't just bounce pads to maneuver, they stay at platforms that have no stairs but have ledges. They don't chase after you. They don't really pressure you. Even on Violent, which is the hardest difficulty currently available, enemies can be braindead. Do something like DOOM Eternal where they can jump anywhere and we're good. Though the game is a lot more focused on you being as stylish as you can be rather than getting out of sticky situations like DOOM Eternal. The game has controller support, but there are no settings for controllers such as sensitivity or remapping. So if you're going to play on a controller, you're gonna have to try out all of your buttons before you get into action. I want more reasons to use the movement mechanics. Since many arenas are so tight and closed, I don't see much use for slam storage moves. The Slam Storage has some use in the Greed layer, but not much else. In the Cyber Grind, everything is viable, but not in the main campaign. In the future, I hope that the nailgun has more techniques because it feels bare as of now compared to every other weapon.
I beg anyone who has a PC, whether it be a potato or a stolen conputer from NASA, to play this game. This is the greatest indie game I have ever played, let alone of 2020. It's amazing how mostly one person developed this game and it's rich in it's gameplay and smooth to play. Hakita is a fucking talented chad for making his game one of the most critically acclaimed video games on Steam and this game earns my highest recommendation ever. Ply this game, then play it again, then play it again, then play it again, then play it aga-
FINAL RATING: A MASTERPIECE OUT OF PLEASE PLAY THIS GAME (that means infinity/10)
i mean who doesnt love violence ? fun game, though with a handful of abrupt difficulty spikes or confusing pathways. still happy with this, especially in an early access state. excited for the finished product
This is like if cocaine had gameplay
If you like Doom or shooters or first-person-games or honestly if you just like games play this
Yes I know this game is still on early acces but it already is a masterpiece with its violent and fast-paced gameplay that I can't get enough of. I actually believe this game is better than doom eternal, sure it has less content and problaly even in its full release it won't have as much content as doom but it's just so fun and honestly the story is just so much better than the one from doom eternal with more compelling characters and a way more interesting lore, in my opinion, and also it's way cheaper in comparison. But yeah enough of that just buy the game already it's really good and you can spend hours on it perfecting its vast and complex combat mechanics to kill demons on the most effective way possible.
FRAUD UPDATE NEXT WEEK!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!! https://steamcommunity.com/games/1229490/announcements/detail/494969252845979631
Guys, I didn't expect this game to be so good. I'm bad at games, so I'm playing on lenient, but I still get my butt kicked sometimes. Thank you developer for thinking of the people who enjoy games, but are not great at them (and giving us the option of an easier mode).
I grinded this level for the Brutal P-rank for hours and hours today, and I did it. It's over. Over 7 hours today and I did it.
Now onto the Encore levels...
The best way to prepare yourself for DOOM: The Dark Ages: Play ULTRAKILL. From what I'm hearing you're gonna be parrying a lot so those skills parrying in ULTRAKILL could parry I mean carry over. Preppring by trying to P-rank P-2 on Brutal and it is still kicking my ass.
New update for ULTRAKILL came out. It's moreso a revamp for mostly the visuals, but with some little changes here and there as well as some new optional levels. The scions get the biggest change in terms of how they attack. You can really feel the uplift these older areas got. There are little changes to the level design such as how to get a certain secret in 1-2. Love the changes to 1-2 especially.
There is also a new addition to the update. Encore levels. Basically a single level per layer that is a remix of rooms and enemies, but the challenge is cranked up. They are such a cool addition to the game for those like me who want to master this game.

Probably the more fire ULTRAKILL animation I have ever seen.

P-Ranked Violence Layer on Violent difficulty.
Violence is the best layer in the game so far. Banger after banger with such creativity, variety, enemy design, level structure. So much of Violence just works. It's so hard to pick a favorite level of the 4. It's very overwhelming in its sprawling paths, but it is so fun to uncover a route and just roam around in these levels. 7-2 in particular.

I started learning to draw digitally during Thanksgiving break. This is my first piece of finished digital art that I have done. Had a pretty fun time drawing in Procreate.
So, I've ultra-killed everyone in the main campaign (for now). I'll probably come back for some cybergrind and for the new chapters when released. At least now all of the Ultrakill memes I get recommended on YouTube won't spoil this game for me.
So P-2 came out today.
Only took me 16 tries and 40 minutes to P rank it.

In light of a recent thing on here, check out some of my bi guns and watch me do cool things with them :) (rn I'm biromantic)
