The catch rates in this game make absolutely no sense. If I throw a great ball at a pokemon whose HP bar is in the red and is lower level, I should be surprised when it doesn't work, not when it does. Half the time they just immediately pop out regardless of what ball I use. There are too many pokemon in this game to go through this every time. I will probably use cheats for 100% catch rates to save time. (It's not like the game is a challenge anyway.)
I finally installed Scarlet and I am now faced with a hard decision. Ever since Blue/Red I've always picked the fire starter, but I've been watching Pokemon Horizons and Fuecoco is an idiot. He doesn't even have much of a cool factor to make up for how stupid he is. Sure, this is Roy's Fuecoco I'm talking about, but it's the only Fuecoco I know, so it's colored my view of the species. I know I don't want the duck. Sprigatito is cute, but Meowscarada is weird and lame. So do I follow tradition and pick the moron? Do I pick the cute cat that turns into an anthropomorphic nightmare? Or do I go against my better judgement and just take the duck? If I'd only played before watching the anime...
Imagine getting silenced in online spaces dedicated solely to sharing your feelings. I'm literally not allowed to exist lmao Fucking internet. Alright cool. Back to gaming to supress my emotions I suppose.
So, you guys think all my Pokemon being level 60 would be enough to defeat Arven? I'm hoping so. I've been out here grinding for a few days now and I'm ready to try to face him again.
I wanna beat this, I've just got one titan, one star base and victory road (plus whatever is post game I guess as usual) but I don't have the DLC and I'll be sad when it's over :( This has easily been one of the best Pokemon experiences and I don't want it to be over lol
Finally getting started on the DLC for this one. I loved the Sword and Shield DLC so much but I'm not positive this game is as good. It's sad, but something about this game just feels, I don't know, loose and unsatisfying.
Scarlet is easily one of the best Pokemon games I've ever played, and honestly, I think Gen 9 as a whole, Arceus not withstanding, is my second favorite gen now after Gen 2. I played this literally all day in between hours of sobbing bouts. It's all I have to keep me going, but it's helping.
In total and complete unsurprise to anyone given my usual way of not agreeing with the norm...
...this is fantastic. I loved Sword, but Sword was - and even I'll admit this - extremely linear to a fault (and if I, queen of linearity says this, you know it's true) and also very very VERY easy. Aside from having trouble catching Pokemon, the game was like so easy it could be an introductory game for young children to the franchise. That being said, I still loved it to death, and it's easily in my top Pokemon games from the mainline series.
But Scarlet is on a whole other level. Aside from some minor lagging and visual glitches here and there, which is completely understandable considering the Switch is NOT a graphics powerhouse, and frankly graphics are the least important part of a game to begin with anyway, and aside from the lack of interesting battle animations, this is the open world Pokemon game it feels like they were always working towards.
I've really liked, especially the 3ds installments, how varied the concept is becoming. For example, in Moon you were just straight up on a pseudo Hawaiian island doing …

I've really liked, especially the 3ds installments, how varied the concept is becoming. For example, in Moon you were just straight up on a pseudo Hawaiian island doing research, and had to visit other neighboring islands to get your badges. Awesome. In Sword, while still fairly traditional, the fact that you had to face down not just the Champion but also deal with your classic Legendary was a very neat approach, especially since it had so many other interweaving plotlines with surrounding trainers. And here, the whole basis is you're doing a treasure hunt for a school, and that is just...that is such a cool place to take it because, let's face it, "go out and collect random animals for me, small child" was not going to hold forever, conceptually.
The story is super cool, the fact that there's, so far, 3 paths to take (Gyms, Titans and Team Star) and honestly this might be my favorite generation of new Pokemon since Gen 2. I genuinely love each and every single one of these new additions to the roster so so SO much. The only thing I REALLY don't like is the way the Pokecenter is essentially a goddamn self service gas station design. Like, I long accepted that they merged the mart and the center, and while I dislike that immensely, that's just the way it's been forever now and it's the way it will always be, and sure it makes it more convenient, I just liked seeing the Pokemart as its own building.
But now it's not even a building. Now it's just literally a Sonic drive in, and I for one am NOT okay with that.
Anywho, I've beaten one Titan and going for my second gym badge now, and I am having the absolute time of my life. This is absolutely fantastic and everyone needs to cool their jets when it comes to bashing modern Pokemon, seriously.
bought this on sale (20 bucks off, surprisingly) to assuage the pain of having been, to put lightly, taken advantage of in the worst kind of way last week, and honestly, so far, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this aside from some minor lag from a game of this caliber running on a system that is being taxed to its limit.
gonna be all about pokemon for a good while, just so you know. it's my comfort space right now to combat the trauma.
coming back to this after abandoning it for a while as a consequence of finally getting my hands on the ps5, and now i'm finding it even harder to overlook how garbage it looks in a lot of places. obviously the switch a ps5 isn't, but the new zelda trailer also reminded me how pretty switch games can be..
however, i am having fun with it! the storylines are quite interesting and the pokemon are cute!
Lechonk and Gigachad were the highlights.
