There is a lot of hate for the story, etc., but the main reason this game isn't worth it is the speed of the combat. They've decided to make combat physics based, which sounds good, but once you're a little into the game, enemy turns quickly takes between 5-10 min., and it cannot be sped up in any way. It makes the game mind-numbingly dull.
Also the levels are often too small, making it so enemies can see you from your entry point, making stealth nearly pointless. AI is dumb as hell, and instead of improving it, they just pour in more enemies, and make them VERY tough. Combine that with the slow turns, it just becomes dull. If they could fix this somehow, this could be a decent game, though the story is really non-existent.
Game has loads of potential, lots of options, and it starts out really strong and difficult. After a while though, the campaign gets very repetitive to the point I could not progress the story cause I was just fending off enemy attacks 100% of the time.
is this game getting better over time? because it looks really cool. Judging by a quick video review and seeing the comments on here it sounds like a good one to 'leave in the oven' for as long as possible.
'Aimed/called' shots that can hit other body parts when they miss need to be a defacto design decision in the industry! I've never ever seen this done before! WHY?
So Phoenix Point was finally released today, I gave to the crowd-funding campaign a couple years ago. However, the devs stabbed their supporters in the back and have made it an Epic store exclusive. I just received my key in my inbox; not sure whether to actually install the Epic launcher thing on my computer, I don't want to betray Lord Gaben. Apparently I'll also receive a Steam key when it finally comes to Steam in 12 months. O_O
This is exciting! I never liked the direction that the new X-Com games took; already this project looks much better, and closer to the brilliance of the original. They have procedural/evolving enemies which sounds really cool.. much more exciting than the awful rubbery action-figure-style cringe aliens from the Take-2 X-Coms. They have a crowd-funding campaign, it has some cosmic horror/Lovecraft inspiration so I'm already completely sold on it. :O
Phoenix Point is the new strategy game from the creator of the original X-COM series. It features turn based tactics and world based strategy in a fight against a terrifying, alien menace.
