Instead of eggs, this time Yoshi tosses yarn balls that he can use to clear blocked paths, tangle-up enemies, or even knit together platforms and warp pipes. Yoshi can also tug at stray yarn to unravel walls and reveal hard-to-reach areas filled with hidden collectibles. Tackle challenges in local 2-Player co-op by partnering up with a friend. Playing Yoshi's Woolly World after having already played Yoshi`s Crafted World is bizarre, because you realize that 90% of the great things in the Switch game already was in the Wii U one. Now, maybe it's an exaggeration, because the different aesthetics are nice and being able to throw the eggs in the background adds a lot to the game but still. Anyway, this is a great game, full of amazingly fun ideas, with such lovely graphics, a wonderful way of tying gameplay to the wool concept and a great balance in terms of challenge and the search for secret stuff. Also, the soundtrack is out of this world. We had so much fun, even though my daughter was really scared of the ghosts levels and/or the flying skeletons.

Despite being unsatisifyingly short and incredible easy, Yoshi’s Woolly World focuses much heavier on its strengths, such as the immaculate visuals, and the gameplay which often has bursts of fun. The game’s biggest strength is that it’s simply joyful, it’s impossible not to grin ear to ear while traversing the 6 beautiful worlds.

Yoshi is back and this time the atmosphere is more creative than ever before. The Yoshi's are having a blast playing in the yarn when a Koopa Wizard comes and turns all but one Yoshi into yarn bundles. It's up to you - the last Yoshi left to chase down the Koopa Wizard, save the craft world, and reunite the Yoshi.

Yoshi's Woolly World is a 2D side scrolling platformer where you will use Yoshi's double jump, ground pound, tongue attack and yarn throwing skills to make your way through several craft worlds. The ascetics are top notch in Woolly World. Every terrain has been re-imagined into craft supplies and yarn. Yoshi will spring between 'worlds' which are really just craft projects lying around a room. The music is mostly acoustic and whimsical which matches the rest of the theme nicely.

The gameplay is also simple and whimsical. Most players will not have any difficulty speeding through the levels without ever dying. Even the bosses can be beaten easily on your first try. If you ever do have trouble there are power-ups and an easy mode where Yoshi can fly. The power-ups are mostly to powerful to use without feeling guilty. They range from giving you more powerful yarn balls to winning a level by selecting the power-up. The real challenge in Yoshi comes when you try and collect all the yarn and daisies to 100% the game. Many of these collectables add additional platforming challenges for those of us that find the game too easy. However, some of these collectables are invisible - only revealing themselves if you accidentally hit them with a yarn ball. In addition, none of the power-ups that you can purchase help with this. To find all of the collectables you will find yourself either scouring every inch of the level or consulting Youtube. Overall, the extra effort doesn't feel worthwhile.

Yoshi's Woolly World does have one big strength and that is the co-op. Everything about this game is so accessible. Team up with your newbie girlfriend and let her use the flying Yoshi. She'll be able to pick how her Yoshi looks and rarely feel intimidated by the game's difficulty. In addition, the music and theme make the game so cute that she'll fall in love with it immediately. For those of you going solo Yoshi's Woolly World is short cute and not much of a challenge. You'll enjoy it for a little while but soon realize that it is too easy and the invisible collectables are too annoying to bother with. There is a lot of polish and everything controls tightly - but there just isn't much there to keep you interested for more than a few hours.

My wife and I had a lot of fun playing through this together. The level design, aesthetic, and music all work really well together. The game is at its best during the traditional linear platforming levels. However, there are some exploratory non-linear levels that are a bit of a slog toward the end of the campaign. Up until the last handful of stages, that game is fairly easy by 2D platformer standards, but we found ourselves compelled to find all the hidden yarn spools and flowers (collectibles) in order to unlock the extra yoshis and bonus levels. The bonus levels in particular are some of the most clever and challenging stages in the game, so I would definitely recommend unlocking them. The bottom line is if you're looking for a fun and charming co-op experience, and are inclined to explore every nook and cranny of a game, this one is probably right up your alley. However, if you're looking for a fast-paced and challenging action platformer, you may find Yoshi's Woolly World a little too slow for your liking.

The games would be MUCH less frustrating if you just passed by your partners. Ugh. And in this game your partners can even obstruct your yarn tosses!

Solid Yoshi Game

I really enjoyed this game. It had great level variety, and each stage had a completely different feel to it. The graphic style was simply gorgeous, and it was a treat to see all the familiar Yoshi characters (As well as Amiibo characters) recreated with yarn.

The game required some platforming skills, but was definitely on the easier side. Also, it was relatively short in my opinion. The game would've been made even shorter if the player was not aiming for 100% with all the collectibles.

If you enjoyed previous Yoshi games you'll love this, it is not very long, but you can feel the love and quality pouring out of this game every step of the way.
