Nightingale is one of those rare open world survival crafting games that doesn't seem to be complete garbage. It has an ok twist in being able to open up portals to different worlds and modify them with "cards". But yeah, it's still bad.
Flaw number 1 is the combat. You're just doing basic slashing or shooting. If there are abilities or spells, i didn't see them.
The second flaw is the clunky crafting system. There are about a dozen different crafting stations (!!) and there are also 'decorations' that improve them.
And, of course, there's the inventory management. There are dozens of items, only represented by icons, a small backpack and a tiny default storage at your camp. Your companion seems to be able to carry infinite weights, but they will also randomly add your hard-earned lumber and coal to crafting stations. I don't know if the crafting stations only use items from the small camp storage or if they also pull from storage chests because i couldn't find the storage chest in the 8 or so skill trees.
Perhaps the worst part is that the story elements suck. There is a sort of guide character and he talks in really annoying old-timey English so i skipped his lines. And that's the thing you suffer through all the gathering and crafting nonsense for! The other "characters" are even worse, just low-effort NPCs.
Maybe everything gets better after playing this for many hours, but it really doesn't seem to be worth it.
