Expanded Versions of Earth Defense Force 2025

Wow. After playing through the EDF series, I can conclusively say that 4.1 brings everything of both Japanese and American development choices and makes one of the best EDF games out there.
Crazy large amounts of action with dozens of bugs and battleships at every turn? Check. A staggeringly large amount of content filled with various enemies and locales? Check. Graphical improvements? This is one of the first EDF games to look truly gorgeous and also be a blast to play at the same time.
The classes also provide plenty of variety and the AI are a welcome plus, along with the support for both offline and online multiplayer.
There's never a dull moment with EDF, and Shadow of New Despair is peak performance for D3 Publisher. Let's hope they keep this fantastic series going.
Finally getting around to play 4.1. 2017 was a great introduction for me to the series, having never played the games prior, and Insect Armageddon was great but flawed (missions were too long). 2025 was pretty much the best once I figured some things out, how some of the mechanics/classes operated, and now 4.1 is truly the best. It just takes everything and improves upon it, with more death, more ways for death and more EDF NPCs deathing. Death.
Seriously though, this series is fantastic from a pure gameplay perspective. One of the best, as a matter of fact. The music, humour and dialogue are all underrated, too, and there are actually a couple levels in here where there's really good storytelling. I mean, you come to this series for the gameplay, but it's nice that the other stuff is good too, not that I'd call this The Last of Us in terms of story by any means.
Good, mindless fun. Good time with friends and experiencing all the zaniness the game has to offer. Wish it was less grindy. The grind and the weapon drop RNG makes it feel like this game doesn't respect your time.
Oh heck yeah! This is where it's at. My first time with this series.
This game is such a guilty pleasure and stupid fun. from the B movie dedication to the slaughter of all the bugs, it was a blast start to finish. Also so much better than insect Armageddon, which I'm currently slogging through.
Honestly, I think I am done with this. I am not even close to finishing it, and I adored every second of this goofy ridiculous game, but I am ready to move onto something new. This was exactly what I needed for a few days. I am probably going to finally give The Last Guardian a shot now. Despite not finishing it, I wholeheartedly recommend it. It is thrilling and hilarious and incredibly charming. EDF!
I am enjoying this so damn much. Fun fun fun.
Up to level 5, going back and grinding through levels.
