Intro

Like the Kingdom games, Ratropolis is a 2D real-time strategy game in which you build a village in the middle of an area and are attacked by enemy waves from the left and right sides. This game also has deckbuilding, with you being able to buy new cards that represent effects, units, buildings, et cetera.

The Good

  • Solid deckbuilding.
  • Deckbuilding makes the game dynamic.
  • Decent mechanics.
  • Rat theme is something different.
  • No annoying horse riding.
  • Twelve different leaders to choose from.

The Bad

  • Lacks the "mystical" atmosphere of the Kingdom games.
  • Combat is still dull.
  • The tutorial doesn't properly guide you to win.

The Ugly

I quite liked the various mechanics and i was looking forward to trying out the different leaders to see how their traits affect the game. Unfortunately, the game is too hectic and you can't take action while paused.

There are enemy waves, you have to constantly strategically play cards, you have to wait 10+ seconds to withdraw, there are a bunch of buildings with different timed options, there is a merchant, you have to build, et cetera.

I'm sure i could win, but i just don't enjoy how frenetic it feels. Decent game, just not for me.

cool game concept, wierd design choices where you can miss sidequests/merchant options because the game doesn't pause and you are busy focusing on other stuff and only get 15 seconds.
