I am not entirely sure how to feel about this game. On one side some of the levels are pretty fun and when things click it is a blast, on the other, some levels are pretty frustrating. The Ai is strange, sometimes they hear your shots and come rushing, sometimes they don't, sometimes they see you and come shooting sometimes they don't. Aiming is not as smooth as it could be. I was expecting to be a killing machine and be really fast paced, but I had to slow down at several points.
It is nice that you can retry immediately.
It has a great soundtrack and it is a pretty short game so there is no harm in checking it out

Went back and replayed to get all the achievements. Was really fun to replay it, definitely an amazing game.

I'm like an hour/hour and a half into this game. I'm having a blast. I feel like the game wants me to feel bad that I'm enjoying it so much. Will Hotline Miami attempt to make me feel bad?

My initial thoughts of the sound track once I bought it was "it's ok, but much better when playing the game". So I returned it on steam.
Then I gave it a second try, bought it back, now its my driving music. I don't even care about tailgating assholes anymore. Thanks Devolver!

This game is the perfect example of what an Indie Game can accomplish. The gameplay is fantastically fun, the soundtrack is amazing. There is also a charm to the graphics that characterizes Hotline so much. The gameplay Hotline Miami makes the violence of "old" 80s and 90s movies fun. It is incredibly satisfying to play one chapter of the game, changing weapons depending on the situation, or going berserk with a shotgun until you end up with no ammo. But the arcade characteristics of this game keeps it challenging, for a great score you need to be bold (fast), not rely on only fire weapons, you can also use doors to knock out opponents and finish them. The variety of enemies makes this short game exciting and interesting in the end, even if you end up pissed at one of the bosses.
The soundtrack Music in Hotline Miami is so good that I add it to my playlist a long time ago. Coming from someone that didn't like electronic music, this was a nice intro for someone "young" to this genre.
The graphics Like I stated above, the game is immediately recognizable if one finds a picture or video about it anywhere.
The sins While the game deserves the max rating, it does have shortcomings like its short playtime (which I'm actually glad, I was afraid the game would get repetitive) and for those who don't either care or already finished the lore, found it annoying that you have to replay what could be considered as cutscenes. Though I haven't look at the configs to see if it can be skipped.
