This time Bionic Commando goes beyond its classic 2D perspective, which makes it almost a different game and my favorite one in the series. The story is stupid at best, but there's not much of it, so who cares? What matters here is the gameplay and holy shit it is fun. Traversal is very similar to the later Insomniac's Spider Man game and is super enjoyable. Combat is fast and fun. The controls took me a bit of time to get the hang of them, but after that they felt just right. Unlike many other similar games (Infamous, Prototype and the above mentioned Spider Man), Bionic Commando doesn't have an open-world which I really appreciate in traversal video games these days.
Don't get me wrong, Bionic Commando has many flaws. Most of them are minor, and the biggest one is probably the unsatisfying gunplay, but it's not that bad and the game gives you plenty of options how to approach killing enemies, so it didn't matter much for me. Overall, playing this game was a surprisingly enjoyable experience. And I've got it on sale for less than a dollar. What a steal!
