This is a comedic rpg. It is yet another perfect example of how you don't need fancy graphics to make an enjoyable fun game. The game is made entirely of stick figure art

The game has an old west setting. The writing is VERY well done. It's very humorous and I found myself with a smile on my face throughout my entire playthroughs
I found it to be an epic experience. You create a character and set out to make your fortune. You'll find yourself in snake infested mines, jellybean museums, pickle factories. Use a snake as a whip. Find yourself face to face with a demonic cow. Cowboys, ghosts, ghost HORSES, goblins and of course, angry cowboys. You can get an enchanted gun, or one that fires poison bullets. It would take forever to share all you can find in this game
You can have members in your party and they all have surprisingly deep backstories.
There are huge amount of locations and they are varied. It will probably take you a few playthroughs to see all that this world has to offer
There are plenty of things to do, but you can choose to do them in whatever order you please
The combat is turned based and you can use special abilities. It's very simple combat, but that's fine because the game concentrates more on giving these stick figure people life and telling a humorous story, although, I will say that some people might have issues with the combat, but I did not
There is some puzzle solving in the game and mysteries to find the answer to, but if you get stuck....just do something else. There's plenty of things to do. Oftentimes solving one problem will aid you in figuring out another
There's a lot to explore, but you never feel you have to grind for experience. Just find yourself an infinitely spawning enemy area
It's a game that's meant for everyone and you'd have to be a real sourpuss to not have a good time with this game. It's goofy wonderful fun and this stick figure game is one of my favorite RPG's

Simple, fun and funny RPG. I think this might be the only funny RPG I've ever played, and while it's graphics are super lo-fi, it has little twists and turns and full of jokes. I did not ROFL, but I sure grinned and chuckled a lot.

It also has quite a few plot options regarding quests and just plain mechanical options in combat and side-jobs.
The only thing I didn't like was a lot of places looked the same and I couldn't remember what needed to be done where, even with the help of the wonderful Pardner.

Another strong point was the writing, which add some depth into the conversations I make, the quests I run and the numerous events I run into. The less I talk about it, the more you readers will get out of it.
The interface keeps the game flowing without loading hiccups. While the battles are fairly short in average, it could have been designed better for players who have a large collection of items as the side-ways scrolling is a bit clunky until the right item is found. Besides that, there is a lot to get out of this adventure RPG for the dollar value, including replay values, which is why I recommend West of Loathing to both new and veteran players of the genre.

I really enjoyed this game although I did at times get lost in that i would go like a month without playing and the game clues about what to do next would be impenetrable to me lacking context, that’s sort of on me, but still even my final play through I had the same experience despite having way more context. …
I really enjoyed this game although I did at times get lost in that i would go like a month without playing and the game clues about what to do next would be impenetrable to me lacking context, that’s sort of on me, but still even my final play through I had the same experience despite having way more context. This is really more just me having bad Adventure Game Memory but I appreciated that WoL did a way better job than most games of keeping me fresh and focused.
The writing in the game, particularly the incredibly human way that people interact with each other, was amazing. It really felt like a bunch of transcribed conversations from some comedy podcast where they play an old 80s adventure game.
The story though was a bit fuzzier for me, but still enjoyable enough when playing. Towards the end I lost the thread beyond just knowing that I needed to see the resolution of the central plot point but I had lost the character’s motivation beyond the standard “I’m a western protagonist and I see these things through”
All that said, there are games that do this but take many times longer before you realize the ending wasn’t super integral to the overall experience. In WoL the journey is the destination. At least with WoL there are side quests that are goofy and fun to play. Given what I know of the game, I would probably play again but with a different character class. Looking forward to the dlc

Playing this on Switch now and IT. RULES. 2017 was such a good year for games that "Best Stick Figure Game of 2017" is a legit debate (Stick Fight The Game is great).

West of Loathing is a silly adventure game, with the aesthetic reminiscent of Newgrounds c. 2007 - black and white stick figures. But WoL is actually, legitimately, good. First off, the slap stick, is real good. Tons of jokes, recurring gags, and creative locales. Many I enjoyed even on an intellectual level - appreciating just the construction and set up. …

What elevates WoL is that this silly-stupid slapstick humor game actually has a decent amount of neat puzzles with out-there plot beats. So after excruciatingly, slowly, sensually removing an item from a dirty spittoon for the fourth time, you might next solve an occult mystery, purely by text menu navigation. The game is far more varied than you would expect by looking at its art and description, but WoL fills 10 hours with intrigue, laughs, and some of the most well-executed dumb gags you've ever seen.
