In concept, the mechanic of having to put certain species of plant to create a specific kind of ecosystem, and creating certain habitats for animals to get more points per second to spend and use for more plants so that animals can evolve sounds amazing! BUT in the end it just ends up being something like Doodlegod mixed with a clicker game... Equilinox had the potential to become a VERY in-depth simulation game but more or less ended up being a more complex than usual clicker phone game.
The situation becomes grindy very quick, the lack of a proper speed up button has caused many people to hold the fast-forward clicking button until their fingers are slightly bothered by holding the mouse button. Some people (like me) even activated Clicklock to keep it in position over night to get like a lot of points. Any means to speed the game more would have helped this game from just in the end feeling like a padded clicker game where the structure is: create a ecosystem, evolve a creature, get more points to grind to the next thing you have to unlock, it really is just a clicker game that every now and then you have the opportunity to unlock something more powerful to get more points to waste them as well, it's a clicker game with extra steps!
With that said I did waste a lot of time, and it is something that keeps you hooked, but the magic kinda fades away once you realize the structure and the fact that there's almost no replayability at all once you unlock everything! Again feels like a waste of potential because the engine is amazing and renders so many creatures so well. Little life improvements would be great too! Such as being able to copy a unit to paste rather than look for it forever.
