Monster paradise/Hitbox hell

This is a very good, but broken game. It has almost everything I love about the franchise, but probably one of the worst gameplay ever. I had no fun playing alone or with somebody. This is a very good, but broken game. It has almost everything I love about the franchise, but probably one of the worst gameplay ever. I had no fun playing alone or with somebody. I had no fun with short ranged weapons. And I definitely had no fun with some of the most dated aspects, like the meal part. But there's a lot of heart and charm to this game. Especially when it comes to customization and the gorgeous monster design. Also, this game is great (albeit much slower) when it comes to long range weapons. Good game, but extremely frustrating. Also, why are the hitboxes so punishing??

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite: A Little Quality, a LOT of Quantity

Expectations were running high for the second generation of Monster Hunter! Though I learn many weeks later of playing through that not much has changed, which is not necessarily a good thing. There is more variety on monsters (many, many more!) with returning to old ones, meaning more freedom to build what armor/weapons you need. However, hitboxes are still too large for comfort, the difficulty spike for soloing multiplayer is still relatively impossible, and there are MANY more quests than there are monsters. Playing through the single player isn't necessarily a burdensome task, but attempting to see all the game has to offer (Yama Tsukami, Ukanlos, Fatalis Trio) will be forced to play the same quest with the same monster ad nauseum. One monster not enough? Two! Two not enough? Different color! Still not enough? Throw em' in an Epic Hunting Quest or multi-hunt! Three ranks in Guild and two ranks in single player? Yuup. Once you realize it, you've killed the same thing more than 20 times on 20 different quests and realize how repetitive the game actually is.

Getting a headstart on later installments thankfully reminded me that such a practice is the thing of the past. Freedom Unite is a bit archaic for its own good, but manages to make little improvements and additions of interesting monsters amidst the insane amount of quest recycling. And ugh, don't bother playing the Guild quests unless you have a dedicated team of players with you.
