Played the demo for this earlier and it seems like one of those games where it’s either totally your thing or totally not your thing. I figured I’d be more in the latter camp since I’m not interested in the witch/tarot theme, but I try things out anyway if people seem enthusiastic about them. The demo definitely confirmed that this didn’t really interest me much conceptually, but the bigger problem for me was the dialogue, which seemed to very much be going for a modern day relatable feel. Coming from the mouths of these characters, it felt very out of place and tonally awkward, and turned me completely off of wanting to play more of this. I’m all for some humor in a game but I guess that kind of approach is always going to run the risk of falling flat for a small part of the audience. I similarly bounced off of Misericorde this week after an interesting first hour that played it pretty straight suddenly shifted to more of a young adult, modern humor vibe that it tried mixing with the more serious stuff. I don’t know, I don’t need my games to take themselves 100% seriously, but sometimes the balance and approach of the humor is not gonna work for me I guess. I think if this game looks appealing to you, just go for it and you’ll probably love it (at least to a point, based on some reviews I’ve read), and if you’re on the fence, definitely try out that demo.
