I spent the last year defending this game because the Original 2003 release was really a banger, but the Re-master feels half-assed AF.
began this game a few days ago and it does feel good to play, but I had problems with colors popping up too much, the animation feels a bit slippery than the original despite having full control of the characters, the impact that the you get when you hit an enemy is not the same it feels very cheap replica, and they didn't even bother with any of the audio.
I loved the original 2003 game too much that sometimes I compared it to Super Mario 64, but with the way they handled the game making it as good enough as possible to sell is bothering me a lot.
there was a lot of head room to fix the original game and add more Good content but they half-assed that part by putting a less than mediocre Co-op game.
overall the Re-master is not bad but they defiantly made the game just to sell, I really recommend playing the original release (PS2, Gamecube, OG Xbox) because that is the one where it feels like there more heart …

this game barely works. but when it does like yk it's aight
Its a cute & fun game! It reminds me a lot of of the Mario games, except it's obviously Spongebob Themed.
Ultimately this game is passable for me as a good game, largely due to the extremely fun platforming it faithfully recreates. But goddamn if it doesn’t run like shit on the Switch from time-to-time.
And wouldn’t you know I made it to the final level without being plagued by the dreaded bug where a golden spatula is taken but doesn’t register in the game. And then it happened on one of the very last ones I had to get. Fuck me.
I love Spongebob and this game did a great job of making the game feel like its in the show. The platforming is super fun and the different areas you visit are great for exploring. The characters are voiced by their respective voice actors in the show which is fun. The game also looks really nice. Overall, a really fun experience.
Better for kids. Gameplay very simple and rustic. Co-op game is the worst
Two things motivated me to beat this game - 1: Pure nostalgia, as I played a bunch of the original as a kid. 2: The curiosity to see if the endgame bits I remembered as being pretty challenging would still challenge me today (And the resulting joy of absolutely wrecking sections that took me days as a kid, in a couple minutes).
Had a lot of fun, but the game probably wouldn't have stood out if this was my first contact with it. In some cases, I found the new animations and sounds to be inferior (or straight lack of animations, like with the teleport boxes). Was a fun diversion from the heavier, "serious" vibes of other games I've been playing, and a nice plat for the collection. (Younger me would be very proud!)
I haven't played a game based off a cartoon or movie since the SNES days (since there were just so many games based on cartoons and movies back then) but this remaster came with PS+, and I figured, hey why not?
I can't believe how much fun I'm having in this game. I never played the original on PS2, though, and I understand the remaster was a little low effort (according to other reviewers). But for someone like myself who never played the original, it feels awesome and it's a great little collect-a-thon 3D platformer (which is my all time favorite genre, and also one that is quite low in solid titles), with the usual Spongebob charm thrown in.
All in all, for the price of $0 on PS+, I'm stoked to keep playing this one! Just the injection of happiness I need.
