I had played video games before this—Mario, Sonic, etc.—but this was the first game that made me care about its story and characters. Replaying it all these years later, I can see the flaws (it’s very grind-heavy, some of the boss fights are incredibly cheap, and the prices of items are completely absurd) but it’s still one of the best and most unique RPGs I’ve ever played.
