Rivals 1 is my favorite fighting game due to how unique it feels. Super simple in concept but made full use of the few mechanics it had to turn it into a complex game. Rivals 2 just feels like they crammed a ton of new moves and attacks into the game and called it a day. It's not a bad game, if anything I'm just not used to it yet, but it feels needlessly complicated when compared to the first one. I played with a friend and literally both of our first thoughts were "why are there so many buttons now?"
Not to mention the whole CC/floorhugging drama that's going on in the community right now, which feels horrible to play against and goes against the whole "No obscure tech knowledge needed" vibe the first one had. I'm hoping it improves but I'll probably just stick to the first one
