Ordered a few switch games to get some more usage out of the handheld and the first order arrived! For the first time in probably a decade I've ordered these games without reading about them or checking out gameplay footage, every game will be a complete surprise for me which I'm really excited about! Got this pretty cheap and plan to just play it in the background as sort of an ongoing game. Nintendo games hold their value so well that I plan to sell them on once I'm done so hopefully won't lose much money.

Super mario world was my jam growing up, intrigued to see if I can recreate a few levels. The levels in SMW were so inspiring for me in fact that it kick started an interest in game design that I almost pursued at university level but later turned down the offer (one of my biggest regrets!). Maybe now is my chance to explore it once again!

Bought on a whim and never really finished it. I like the idea of making your own Mario levela, but not enough for me to really play around with the features enough. It's a good game, but I'm not a hardcore enough Mario player for it

Creativity at its finest

Came for the really-difficult-but-fair levels. Ended up loading and downloading levels that played songs with note blocks. I mean, how could I give anything less than 5 stars to a platform that allows people to replicate Green Greens?

So, Mar10 sale wave 2 just arrived and I'm thinking on getting MM2. Should I? I'm not sure I'll ever create levels but I do like 2D Mario platforming.

Other featured games: Mario Kart Deluxe, Mario Odyssey, Mario Bros U Deluxe, Mario 3D world + Bowser's Fury. The first two are gems and I definitely recommend both.

Joy.

This is one of the few games that makes me feel straight joy. From the story mode, to the charm filled level creator, to the endless amounts of courses to play this is one of the best Mario spin-off games of all time.

Loses most of it's magic from the first one

The first mario marker rewarded trying new things and to extent rewarded trying harder levels. The second one is more punishing and takes some of the fun out of it. The first mario marker rewarded trying new things and to extent rewarded trying harder levels. The second one is more punishing and takes some of the fun out of it. The single player story is lame and feels like a trog the whole time; not to mention an extremely lackluster end. The online is good, but the endless mode needs to be tweeted. In the first game you started with 99 lives and played till you ran out. This one you start with 5 and are lucky to get through 2-3 on normal because of the lack of 1ups in peoples levels and the "gotcha" stuff in everyone's levels. Anything listed as normal or more difficult will for the most part, need the player to have the level memorized. I feel like they leaned too much into the difficulty aspect of the first game, and should have focused more on fun ways to tie levels together.

Missing the Wii U

Maybe it's because I put in over 900 hours on SMM on the Wii U but I just didn't enjoy this sequel as much even though it has more stuff in it. The original was built for the Wii U and the contols on Switch just aren't as good as the original. If Nintendo let us use a touch screen …

The original was built for the Wii U and the contols on Switch just aren't as good as the original. If Nintendo let us use a touch screen only mode I think that would help. The course search options are as much as a pain as they were on Wii U but even more unforgivable to repeat this many years after Microsoft and Sony figured out this whole "on-line" thing a few generations back.

It is done. Worked on this on and off for a year. I'm not saying this is going to be the best or smartest Super World you'll ever play, but I'm happy with it and hope you enjoy :)

I am loving Super Mario Maker 2! It is so addicting and fun. Even the story mode has been interesting, which I had low expectations for. There is so much to do in this game...I am hooked.

After about 135 hours spent on Mario Maker 2, it's time to move it from "playing" to "played". I spent most of the time creating my own courses. I finally finished the rest of the story mode courses over the weekend to finish off all the Nintendo-provided content.

With the new world maker update, Super Mario Maker 2 has such amazing potential, but the lack of:

  • extrinsic incentive to explore a level (other than just to beat it)
  • options to make lives/coins matter more than just to keep a level's checkpoint
  • an option to skip the needless wait time between dying & retrying a level (for a game that invites so many quick & easy deaths, this absolutely sucks)
  • an option to give Link & SMB2 Mario multiple hit-points

makes the game in practice a really vapid, shallow, and numbing experience for me most of the time, like junk food. And you know, sometimes junk food can be good -- it's still just junk food though.
At least making a level is inherently fun.

Where's the bookmark website? how is possible that there are no personalized tags? Nintendo already made the 'final great update' of the game and things that are common sense are still not in there.

Anyway, it's still a great game and I love it. I wrote about this issues in GamerFocus (in spanish).

Oh my god, you can make worlds now. This is what I’ve wanted since the first Mario Maker, probably more than anything else. This update is full of other amazing things, but I can’t believe we can make worlds now.

i don't hate this game

it's a good game don't get me wrong but it lags even in single-player unless I download the stage I want to play so it's kinda my fault for having shit wi-fi but that doesn't change the fact that I didn' enjoy my time here

I try to wait until I'm "done" with a game to review it. Reached the credits or at the very least seen everything I want to see. But I'm nowhere near done with Super Mario Maker 2. I want to play more levels made by friends and strangers. I want to make stupid levels that people get mad at. I want to make stupid levels people laugh at. I even want to make levels that aren't stupid.

I grew up wanting to make Mario. I would draw crayon pictures of Mario levels. I would draw Mario levels in chalk on the driveway. I would talk to my uninterested mom about Mario level ideas. I wanted to make Mario. I wanted to be Shigeru Miyamoto.

One time I went to a "bring your child to work" day at my dad's office. At the end of the day, they asked us what we wanted to do next year. I suggested make our own Mario level. My dad worked in tech consulting; nothing to do with game development. But I convinced the hundred other kids to vote for my idea. They said we would make a Mario level next year, but sadly I didn't go the next year.

But now I don't have to rig youth elections at tech conglomerates to make my dreams come true. I just have to turn my Switch on and click a button. I think there are things the game could improve on (more styles, more carryover across styles, more power ups, online co designing, etc.), but what it does is so pure and energizing that I can't bring myself to not love it. I loved the first game, and now there is a booming community around this game that so deserved it. Super Mario Maker 2 just makes me happy.

Now when the HECK are we getting Megaman Universe?

Finally started playing. One thing I love: the button the game launches on is "Make". You have to click over to "Play". This game has its priorities in check.

I want to play your levels! Link them here or tell me where to find them!

More of What’s Good But Plenty of What’s Not

As far as the rest of the game: love all the user levels. This is a must own on Switch but I hate Nintendo’s BS when it comes to search, some co-op, and the limitations in versus mode (also lag). This company gets in its own way far too often and that’s v apparent with Super Mario Maker 2.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the game, and beat the main story. I'm still working on the extra missions and 100%ing the story mode. There's a lot of variety in the Nintendo-made levels (and endless variety in the community-made levels). The main issue I have, and this is built right into the design of the game, is that the game feels light. It doesn't feel like it ever adds up to anything significant. However, I'm not particularly interested in the "Make" mode, so I think this game would be much more interesting to me if I was interested in making levels.
