Played for about 10 hours or so, it gets pretty repetitive and I only got close to the end of the second island. I didn't really like the 1st game, but tried the sequel because I heard it's more story-driven. Turns out out it's pretty much the same experience. Gotta be into farming, building to really enjoy this. The story is nothing special.
Dragon Quest Builders 2, though suffers from a monotonous plot and a lackluster combat system, is a fantastic sandbox RPG game. You play as The Only Living Builder, with their best friend Malroth, whom are tasked with rebuilding islands lost to ruin because of the religion of Hargon. Your Builder can either be Male or Female, and can choose from very few hairstyles, but a nice list of skin, hair, and eye colors.
Though I said the plot is monotonous that does not mean it is not good; in fact, it can easily be compared to a mainline Dragon Quest plot. It is fascinating and fun, with very memorable moments. The combat is a simple hack-and-slash system. The building, destroying, and creating part of the game I think is the best that sandbox games have to offer. The visuals are stunning and adorable, with an super-durpy cartoon style. The gameplay is smooth and relaxing. Once you are done with the plot, you are able to build to your hearts content. With fun, adorable, a deep story line Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a fun game.
Voto: 7/10
(So I didn't play the first one, I heard everything about the 2nd is better and upgraded.)
I love the building, the graphics, the story, and the progress aspect of the game. Basically, everything except the number of dialogues (everyone has something to say!!) and the speed of animations, the jingles, and the monologues. I found myself skipping and mashing A button for the story and sigh for animations like more followers, unlocking recipes, etc. taking the time and appeal out of this fast fun game.
I really enjoyed this game. It is quite slow paced and takes quite many hours before you unlock all the interesting areas and features, but it is totally worth it to go with the flow. It has the best combination of Minecraft, action RPG and a little bit of colony sim.
68 hours in, i need to say that if it wasn't for the childish story and humor, this would steamroll almost every game that i've played and get into my top-5 favorites. The game has an insane ammount of high quality content, i haven't encountered a single bug (only one glitch that's not annoying at all), it has beautiful landscapes, gigantic constructions, very fun gameplay and the story, despite being childish (which i'm not saying is a bad thing), is engaging and entertaining.
