Front Mission 5 is the only game in the series I've played so far, and while that game has a lot of problems that keep it from greatness (awful story, needless misogyny, dull and repetitive optimal strategies), it also has big stompy mechs and some pretty novel mechanics for the tactics genre.

Front Mission 2 has never been easily accessible outside of Japan, so reliable information about it is scarce, but apparently it's got a much better story set in near-future Bangladesh, an entire fake internet to browse during downtime, and none of the repetitive chain attacks that made FM5 a slog to play. I'm really interested to see what people make of it.
