I'm still really early in on this, I haven't even unlocked all of the characters or mechanics, but I just wanted to give an update on my thoughts. The game is still fun and all, but in a casual way. It's cool to see a continuation of the 2D games and seeing characters that didn't have interactions with each other in their respective games interact in this game. I think the main issue with this is that the nature of the game doesn't really embody what Castlevania was. It isn't like the 8-bit or 16-bit games with their challenge and it isn't quite like the Metroidvania style with the exploration and progression. It's gacha with spending resources, drawing for equips, and replaying short stages. In a way, this game and Mega Man X Dive kind of feel like the same game, but wearing a different skin. They're both very fanservice oriented and simple, but I don't think either are worthy of being considered particularly good entries to their respective series. In my opinion, they're both fun distractions.
