One of the greatest time wasters for the original Game Boy. Growing up, many long car trips and days spent on the beach was saved by a bag of AA batteries and my copy of Alleyway. It's a classic version of Breakout/Arkanoid/etc, it has all the different levels, a great soundtrack and the difficulty curve is even and timeless. You'd also get better over time and make it a few levels further each session, which makes it great for all ages to just pick up and play instantly. My dad stole our Game Boy a lot when he realised we owned this game. This and Dr. Mario was his jam...
One of the launch titles for the Game Boy, Alleyway is a clone of Breakout, a Namco arcade game, but has several new features original to this version with some editions featuring Mario as the protagonist.
This is a brick breaker game where the objective is to clear all the bricks on each of the 24 levels. The bricks are arranged in various shapes with bonus stages referencing Super Mario Bros. characters. It is a very simple game that I didn't find very difficult but I still resorted to save scumming so I wouldn't have to start over. There were some hilarious moments of the ball being uncooperative.
Overall this is a very simple and casual experience that I had a lot of fun with.
