Back in the 90s when i still watched football i spent hours playing Manchester United: The Double, Competitie Manager 97/98 and the shareware version of another such game in which you could only play as Brighton & Hove (some nth rate English club).
You bought the most expensive players you could afford, picked a formation & lineup and hopefully trounced the opposition. In at least one of these games you could play yourself, which made the game a lot easier. It was all fairly simple. The hardest part was picking upgrades for your stadium.
Fast forward 23 years and things sure have changed. You give press conferences and team speeches. You have set goals. You can adjust every tiny detail, down to what kind of training individual players get. It's a lot. And even with all the delegating you can do it's overwhelming, especially to someone who has no idea who all these people are, or what all the abbreviations mean.
This is obviously not a bad game, but it's pretty hardcore. If you're someone like me the only enjoyment comes from almost losing a training match to the youth squad and seeing all the absolutely ridiculous nonsense that comes from the mouths of trainers & footballers. Holy media training, Batman.
I was tempted to give this 3 stars but it calls the Netherlands "Holland" and the newspapers (in press conferences) are completely fictional which is lame.
