Let's go to the center of the planet!
Ivan Ivanovich is a wonderfully fun character. I was constantly smiling at his story that he tells and his interactions with the general (and the generals responses) were genuinely funny and endearing. Loved it. The graphics and backdrops were utterly stunning and filled to the brim with life and art. Loved it. Where this game unfortunately fell a little flat was in the gameplay department.
I found myself pretty much just holding the analouge stick left or right. Maybe a jump here, or a mindless "puzzle" there, but there really was not much gameplay to speak of. I was expecting a little bit more of a puzzle platformer and not a 2d visual novel. With that being said if you go into this realizing there is not much significant gameplay I do think you will find yourself enjoying it overall more than I did.
Again, to reiterate, graphics good. Atmosphere, good. Voice acting, good. Story, good. Gameplay below average. I do still think this is worth trying though.
Little Orpheus is exactly the game I imagined when I found out that "the people who made Dear Esther" made a game kinda like Another World. Puzzles basically solve themselves, platforming is almost automatic, there's no effort at all requested to the player and it really shines in its sense of spectacle and its really good, funny, writing. To be fair, "funny" is not exactly what one would expect from "the people who made Dear Esther", so I guess it's also a surprising game!
