Stunning sprite work and animations accompanied by very frustrating gameplay. I very quickly remembered why I never made it past the third level and can't believe human beings could beat this without cheats or abusing save states in the 90s.

It's a shame because it's really fun to experiment with each character's playstyle and move set on each level. I'd love a spiritual remake of this with a more condensed campaign.

Like the Double Dragon games, we enjoyed this one in spite of its clumsy platforming. Having multiple X-Men to choose from is really fun, especially since they're more than just skins... each has clear strengths and weaknesses.

The visuals are often really great. In particular the sentinel stages look super cool. Other stages were less enjoyable... we could have done without the entire Savage Land section.

If you like arcade-style co-op beat-em-ups and are very skilled, very patient or very willing to use a Game Genie or other cheat device, you could do far worse than this game.
