What would you say if you found out that the scary monsters hiding in children's closet were all part of a corporate conspiracy? Well, that's the premise of the 2001 Disney or Pixar film, Monsters, Inc., and it's the basis of this videogame for the PlayStation. Play as either Sully or Mike two of the monsters hired to scare little kids as you move from house to house, just trying to do your job. The company you work for is in the business of drumming up "scream energy," so you'll have to be extra frightening if you hope to succeed. … More

Monsters, Inc.: Scream Team – Childhood Nostalgia Trip
This review is for the PlayStation version

Impression / Nostalgia: This game is a childhood classic that has stuck in my mind for years. I recently decided to revisit it – or just play PSX games for fun in general. It’s a short, lighthearted game that’s fun to experience again, mostly for the nostalgia factor. I also had no idea there were so many different versions of this game!

Story: The story barely makes sense, but it adds a small charm to the game. Interestingly, if you earn a bronze medal on a level, you unlock a short clip from the movie. It’s fun, though a bit strange, since the game is essentially a prequel – almost a spoiler in some cases.

Gameplay: Gameplay is very simple: easy, straightforward, and funny. The game is short, and the levels are light and manageable. The music is catchy, though the melodies are short and repeat frequently. Completing all levels 100% (getting every medal) unlocks cutscenes as rewards, which are enjoyable if not groundbreaking. You scare child like robots for training purposes.

Visuals / Atmosphere: A fun bonus: some of the graphics always felt a little creepy to me, especially the simple skyboxes or the dark voids in pyramid levels. …

Visuals / Atmosphere: A fun bonus: some of the graphics always felt a little creepy to me, especially the simple skyboxes or the dark voids in pyramid levels. That slightly eerie touch actually adds to the nostalgic experience.

Difficulty / Modern Perspective: For an adult with a lot of gaming experience today, the game would probably feel very easy and underwhelming. Back then, it felt more challenging, or at least memorable, but now it’s mostly fun for nostalgia.

Conclusion: Overall, it’s a simple, nostalgic game with fun little touches, cute clips from the movie, and some oddly creepy visuals. I don’t see myself playing it again anytime soon… maybe only when I’m really old, haha.

A good chunk of nostalgia
This review is for the PlayStation version

I mean, I wouldn't say it's a good game; it's slow, repetitive, and very simple, but it gives me fond memories of my childhood, and it's a good game for just burning time and not think too hard about anything.

I did only get the bronze medals tho, because if I usually never 100% games, I really wasn't going to start with this one.

I'm going to have nightmares with this game's camera.

Oh ye youngsters with your "joysticks" and your "free cameras". On my era the camera was actually being carried around by a real person and you had to pay them money before each level.

This game was a constant part of my childhood, as I kept renting it again and again back when renting games was a thing, but I never kept it long enough to finish it, so now I'm nostalgic and exited to give it some closure.

I gotta say, tho, I know nostalgia is a heck of a filter but definitely my childhood memories weren't so...
