Impression / Nostalgia: This game is a childhood classic that has stuck in my mind for years. I recently decided to revisit it – or just play PSX games for fun in general. It’s a short, lighthearted game that’s fun to experience again, mostly for the nostalgia factor. I also had no idea there were so many different versions of this game!
Story: The story barely makes sense, but it adds a small charm to the game. Interestingly, if you earn a bronze medal on a level, you unlock a short clip from the movie. It’s fun, though a bit strange, since the game is essentially a prequel – almost a spoiler in some cases.
Gameplay: Gameplay is very simple: easy, straightforward, and funny. The game is short, and the levels are light and manageable. The music is catchy, though the melodies are short and repeat frequently. Completing all levels 100% (getting every medal) unlocks cutscenes as rewards, which are enjoyable if not groundbreaking. You scare child like robots for training purposes.
Visuals / Atmosphere: A fun bonus: some of the graphics always felt a little creepy to me, especially the simple skyboxes or the dark voids in pyramid levels. That slightly eerie touch actually adds to the nostalgic experience.
Difficulty / Modern Perspective: For an adult with a lot of gaming experience today, the game would probably feel very easy and underwhelming. Back then, it felt more challenging, or at least memorable, but now it’s mostly fun for nostalgia.
Conclusion: Overall, it’s a simple, nostalgic game with fun little touches, cute clips from the movie, and some oddly creepy visuals. I don’t see myself playing it again anytime soon… maybe only when I’m really old, haha.
