Mega Man Powered Up, known as Rockman Rockman in Japan, is a remake of the first Mega Man game. It was released worldwide for the PlayStation Portable in March 2006. It was later released in a bundle alongside Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X and was slated for release on the PSP's PlayStation Network. It was released for the PlayStation Network service in Japan, but a US release did not occur due to technical difficulties. The game uses a chibi-style that was intended for the original game but was not possible at the time. The designers intended to keep this design faithful to the way the characters worked and looked in the original. While it received generally positive reviews, the game sold poorly, and plans for a remake of Mega Man 2 titled Mega Man Powered Up 2 fell through. Read less

In my uninformed opinion, this is probably the best way to play Mega Man 1, but at the same time, why would you want to do that? Mega Man 1 is probably the worst Mega Man game besides Mega Man X7. 2 out of the 6 powerups are almost useless, the game feels cheap at times, and the enemies are …

In my uninformed opinion, this is probably the best way to play Mega Man 1, but at the same time, why would you want to do that? Mega Man 1 is probably the worst Mega Man game besides Mega Man X7. 2 out of the 6 powerups are almost useless, the game feels cheap at times, and the enemies are lame. It feels like there are more turrets and enemies that follow a set path than there are actual enemies that pursue you. Somehow they found a way to make some of the bosses and stages even worse in the remade versions. A lot of the remade stages feel drawn out and uninteresting. I think the worst thing they did was make the final boss way harder. Even after beating it, I still have no idea where its hurtbox is because it feels inconsistent. Throw in the fact that it has moves that are either really difficult to dodge or impossible to dodge and it feels more frustrating than satisfying. To be fair, I only played as Mega Man, so it's possible that all of the unlockable characters could have made the game more fun, but I'm doubtful.

I must’ve repressed the BS that is Mega Man 1 from my memory because this game is cheap as hell. Hated Gutsman and Ice Man’s stages and they do so much damage. It was hard just to get to them, don’t make the bosses unforgiving too. I’m hoping I got through the worst of it though.

I didn't play all the way through yet, but I'm really impressed with this remake. I was expecting something along the lines of Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, which was just a remake with upgrades rearranged and an extra mode where you play as Vile. This game gives you the option to either play the classic way, or in a new mode where you can unlock all the other bosses. Plus, they added two new bosses. This game even has a stage editor where you were able to download other courses online. This game is nuts, this is probably the best way to play the original Mega Man.
