A Great Text Adventure With A History-Education Twist

Look: 8/10 Always with these 80s text adventures based in other cultures or any arbitrary "jungle", they have been extremely poorly done, often composed of caricatures and very little knowledge. Based on my preliminary readings, this one, framed as an educational game, is intended to be accurate and informative and nuanced. We'll see how it goes... One of the first things I noticed was that nice, classic Apple look--the usual colors etc heh (which I realize is a setting, but I like these). Simple, but effective due to the nice colors and detail (unlike that Ziggurat game's simple look, which was just that--simple) enter image description here

I also really like the Look of the Book enter image description here

And I like this screen heh enter image description here

Ooo and I love the jungle look enter image description here

Play: 7/10 So my pullup bar came out of the door frame today and I plummeted to the ground heh. Luckily mostly fell flat on my back but my head whiplashed back and hit the wall trim real hard. Uff dah. Point being, I wanted to take it easy tonight and was almost going to take a break from screens, but here we are heh. I wanted to go with something lighter and without a …

I wanted to go with something lighter and without a lot of sound, since the Epoch game I was supposed to play next was very loud and overwhelming based on the YT video I checked beforehand. Gonna give myself time before one of those heh. So, the description of this as a relatively simple adventure game made to educate (not necessarily for children, but still) made it seem like this would be perfect for tonight. In the end, it was okay for the night: not special, but also not bad at all. A pretty, run-of-the-mill text adventure, but without RNG-based deaths (yay) and with a unique educational twist (history, to boot).

Feel: 8/10 This definitely gave Crimson/Viridian Room feel (the Butterfly in the Skull nostril... oh that's supposed to be its eye heh, and Move Map revealing a Key), as well as Zelda feel (buying items with items, like the Beans for the Paddle). I like that you can get historical info about screens by pressing "h" (adds much to the game, so I suggest you do it if you give this a try). I got quite frustrated in the desert, but frustrations are normal in text adventures--and this one was relatively solvable (even without a guide, yay!). Plus, it thankfully wasn't RNG-based.

Attachment: 7/10 Relatively fun and one of the better text adventures in general. Plus, ostensibly educational. Nothing particularly striking, but sure, a game I could potentially replay someday.
