Hitman Go seemed to buck this trend by distilling and abstracting the traditional Hitman formula into a mobile puzzle game. Lara Croft Go goes a step further for Tomb Raider, and this time adds some more narrative elements.
Each of the game's 40ish levels takes place in the same adventure - from discovering the tomb, to finding keys to enter its inner sanctum. dealing with a major threat, and even an escape sequence. Like the game itself it's a very simplified experience, but it really works.
Levels gradually introduce new elements, and the difficulty curve is largely based on how well you can master how each element interacts with each other. For example, a snake will kill you if you approach it from the front. However, if you can find a torch then the snake will move back a space, potentially onto a floor plate to solve the puzzle you're on.
I played it on the PC and it still clearly felt like a mobile game - as in, you'll be using your mouse like it's a virtual finger. Still, it didn't take away from the experience all that much. It's short and sweet, but that's the point
The were also two bonus levels that came for free. I appreciate that they added them, but they were way harder than the base game and that's not really what I was looking for.
