Explore the avian world of Eagle Island with Quill and one of his loyal owls, Koji. Discover lush forests, treacherous caverns and uncover the ruins of long lost civilizations. Finally, confront the gargantuan deity, Armaura, in a desperate attempt to rescue Ichiro from her clutches. With its falconry-based gameplay within uniquely generated worlds, Eagle Island is set to a beautifully modernized pixel art aesthetic and provides a breath of fresh air to the platforming genre.

Eagle Island is a hoot!
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

I first saw Eagle Island on a GDQ stream and the visuals hit me just right, I had to play it for myself!

The concept is simple, the game is a side scrolling rogue-lite platformer with really basic combat. It's not a difficult game save for a few of the late game bosses and one particularly tricky dungeon so it's not a really grindy affair.

You attack with your falconry glove and your trusty owl companion, Koji. This is a more interesting combat mechanic, in my opinion, than some of the standard hack and slash fare you expect from this style of game. When you throw Koji to attack it leaves you potentially defenseless if he happens to bonk or travel far and you missed your throw, there's a real risk reward since there's no real defense besides a quick attack to keep an enemy off of you!

Along the way through the treacherous dungeons filled you'll find power ups that allow Koji to travel through walls, not get stunned, or even give yourself more hit points. You'll also find elemental power-ups after some key dungeons that empower Koji with electricity, fire, and ice which all come with their own …

You'll also find elemental power-ups after some key dungeons that empower Koji with electricity, fire, and ice which all come with their own slew of improvements and build possibilities.

The story is simple, you're there to help save an island from the giant angry bird that's terrorizing it and chasing people away. You learn some truths about the island's past as you fight through caves, dungeons, and up and down mountainsides.

It's not a ground breaking game but the pixel art style is cute as hell, I love Koji, the platforming is fun, and if you can get this game on the cheap it's totally worth it. I beat it in around 7 hours with few deaths, you can speed run this game if you know what you're doing. There are also a bevvy of accessibility options and difficulty ratings that make it more or less challenging for the level of play you'd like to experience.

Eagle Island is a fantastic little indie title, if you haven't yet I recommend checking it out!
