The gameplay is focused on finding children, who are scattered throughout the levels, some behind objects such as doors. The game's levels and music were borrowed from the 1988 Michael Jackson film "Moonwalker" (though many of the music tracks were taken from Jackson's Thriller album as well) and the player has the ability to destroy enemies by making them dance. Preliminary: They really went all out with these Michael Jackson Moonwalker licenses, so many little touches that showed they cared about the game like walking on the piano to make sound etc. I'm playing the Genesis version.

yeahhhh, I've checked behind enough doors for little kids. Play the arcade game instead ;)

Played a little bit of the Sega Genesis version of this today due to playing the 1989 Sega System 18 arcade cabinet version of this via a friend's Pandoras Box 4 emulation cabinet. Despite the... weird premise, it was surprisingly good, especially in co-op!

The 16/32bit music playing in the background was catchy in both versions but I really do prefer the isometric beat-em-up in the arcade release. The console version is more of a side scrolling platformer/action game. It's okay, but the levels all look the same. The attacks which are actually just dance moves made me laugh, as well as the constant "OOWWWHH" sounds. There's a surprising amount of variation with the attacks too. I like how you can moonwalk by holding down the attack button and moving backwards.

Michael Jackson arcade release showing Michael and enemies dancing in sync

I've been trying to get the arcade version running on RetroArch using the M.A.M.E emulator but it's turned out to be pretty tricky. I think I need to find the Sega System 18 bios file. I can't even remember which folder I store my bios stuff in for retroarch so I'm going to put it on hold for now and continue with the Genesis version!

I'm putting this down as a Halloween game too because of how bizarre the concept is. Mafia bosses kidnap kids so Michael turns up to rescue them? Huh. Oh and there's also a graveyard level with zombies.
