Beat in slow motion. This was pretty much the same game as 1. I still loved the hiding in crate move. New was the ability to throw up diagonally, and there was 1 low enemy that needed to be shot while hiding inside the crate. There was only 1 grey block I seen, and no big objects, invincibility, hammer etc. I do remember a baseball that was thrown in an arc but I discarded it in favor of easier to aim boxes. The bosses were a little more developed in this game, getting a bit more of a Mega Man feel, though not reaching that high. They were all about getting something to throw, often while baiting the boss to land its projectile on the ground. A step up from the convenient bouncy ball in 1st game. The final boss was pretty cool with a variety of attacks, a couple destructible parts, and visual representation of taking damage as the fight progressed. I found 1 secret door but it was just healing. Other than that there were way more story scenes, new stage gimmicks, and no overworld. Maybe the stage design was slightly worse but I can't put my finger on why. Despite collecting a lot of stuff I did not upgrade the hp bar. Overall just as good as the 1st game.

Fun Platforming, But A Bit Banal

Preliminary: This looks and plays so much like the first one. Like teh first one, tehre's no "oomph" so far, but it's fast-paced platforming fun, NES but flows well and so far hasn't had any signs of the limitations besides the outdated Look and Sound, and controls well.

Preliminary: This looks and plays so much like the first one. Like teh first one, tehre's no "oomph" so far, but it's fast-paced platforming fun, NES but flows well and so far hasn't had any signs of the limitations besides the outdated Look and Sound, and controls well.

This Ship level is quite ugly. But for the most part I am grateful it doesn't have that issue many NES paltformers have where it's hard to tell what's background vs foreground, which platforms can be jumped on etc. Darn near all platforms can be walked through and jumped to, so that's nice. And it's quite obvious when there's a very solid wall you can't walk through.

Feels like I'm flying through this. Probly helps I played the first one, so I know the little quirks. So far there's only been one instance of sprite slowdown. So that's not bad. Biggest complaints are the banal Look/Sound, the long interludes between levels, and the lack of an oomph beyond fast-paced, approachable gamepaly.

The ghost boss mechanics were pretty lame. Seeming like this wont go past a 3 star anyway, but still a solid follow up to the original.

Day 1

As often happens, as I'm getting into late game, the gameplay issues I was afraid of are coming out more and more. Sure enogh, platforms are often not stand-on-able now. Heck it used to be that random candles with no reason to be able to stand on them since you don't reach anything new were stand-on-able. But nope. Not with these final 3 levels. And I've had multiple instances of sprite slowdown here. I will say, though, this is my favorite tune so far (I belivee this is Clock Tower, one of the final 3 levels you choose from). Just seeming like, indeed, it'll be a 3 star. I should just give that and move on but... close to the ending... so...

It's got that nice feeling where the controls are so responsive that I feel like I have really good response times, like during the Ostrich boss. I felt good at the game, which is always a nice feeling, and I was jumping right at the right time to dodge the sudden speed ups and to grab the gears etc.

Western World had a good tune too :-p So as the gameplay got a bit wonkier, the Sound got better I guess

So many of the bosses had the same mechanic :-p Stand in a way that what they throw at you can properly land on the ground, and then throw that one at them .

Cool-looking final boss, but the mechancis were basically the same as above just with some added annoyance with it. Plus more sprite overload slowdown than the whole game up till then. It was... kinda boring, too much waiting involved for a final boss. enter image description here

Pretty lackluster ending tho the tune is nice enter image description here enter image description here

Look: 7/10

Sound: 7.5/10 Late game and the The End tunes helped boost this. After all, it's December 1993: expectations are high for the Sound of a game.

Play: 8/10 Dull in some ways, but I played it start to end and enjoyed almost all of it. Some creativity and better bosses would've gone a long way.

Feel: 7.5/10

Attachment: 7.5/10

Overall: 7.5/10

Completion: Main Story

Playtime: ~1 hour

Somewhat Generic and at Times Silly. Still, Fun but a bit difficult, due to restarts on losing IMO

Bright, colorful the game looks nice but it plays a bit boringly in the sens that enemies arent that intersting or numerous. The gameplay also has gimmicks like picking up RR Squares that you try to get in packs of 50 per level to unlock HP Heart Container two times every set of 4 you get. There's also a goofy …

The gameplay also has gimmicks like picking up RR Squares that you try to get in packs of 50 per level to unlock HP Heart Container two times every set of 4 you get. There's also a goofy bonus stage where you throw a ball up to try and score extra lives. Lose your lives and you get a nice big game over and gotta start the whole game again though. Bleh. It's no duck tales or Megaman 3 but, oh well it wasn't a bad way to kill an hour or two... My emulator fears not you bad game design, Capcom!

A simple and not-so-challenging platformer that you can finish in 1 hour or so. The movement is very fluid and the presentation is pretty much identical to the first installment, which is fine, even though I sometimes had doubts about what was supposed to be a platform and what was not. It achieves its goal of entertainment, despite its short duration.

Frankly, there is little reason to play it other than to add one more check to your "Played" shelf.
